Jon isn't 25 years old anymore.. and really if you listen to him on the SWW tour when he was young his voice was a mess due to so much touring.

Absolutely.... i don't want to sound like a backstager and kiss Jon's ass but from seeing them live twice and hearing bootlegs from other shows I am AMAZED at how much better Jon sounds on this tour. It is the best he has sounded in years.

Jon has quit and that is why he sounds noticeably better this tour. I too hope he can keep it up.

You have said you didn't see Jon on the Bounce tour but saw them on OWN... Jon sounds a MILLION times better on this tour than Bounce. Go listen to Wild is the Wind from the first Toronto show and tell me if Jon's voice is lacking power... that recording sounds like 1989 Jon. I heard them soundcheck it in 2001 and Jon sounds horrible on it.. it is painful to listen to it. But here five years later Jon sounds brilliant on it in concert

Also to me it seems the energy IS back in Jon's performances.... he seems to REALLY be into the tour and giving his all night after night. I wasn't in Florida so I don't know if Jon was having an "off night" but I heard boots when he was sick and even in those to me it sounds like he is giving his all. I really truly don't think he has been half-assing this tour. The majority of the reviews from fans.. even the very critical ones of Jon have been very positive and most have been impressed with this tour.. especailly Jon's performances

(cue me on the big screen) JBJ: "How good have you been? Oh My God!" (laughs, more teasing) JBJ: "You want it huh, you want it huh? Blood on Blood just for you, the good girl in the front row? The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3

Default Well...

My frustrations may have gotten the better of me for a lot of that post and from everyone's reaction I should resign myself to the fact that I caught him on an 'off' night (sandwiched between the first tampa show and the Daytona 500).

I missed the stuff I really wanted to hear, too, for the most part... (When I saw In These Arms multiple times in the setlist I nearly shat myself, but they didn't play it... instead putting.. ugh... EveryDay in it's slot...) including ITA, Blood on Blood, Next 100 years (I think they pulled that out ONCE this tour, if I remember right... ), Captain Crash, Wild is the Wind (also hoping for that, noticing it in the set list a few times). ... seems like Jon filled his set with the 'easy' songs on my night.

I can't say it was a 'bad' show... but I caught him in Detroit on the Crush tour ON FIRE. My bar was set a little high.

As for the smoking thing... Geoff Tate of Queensryche, bar none one of the top vocalists ever, quit smoking in the early 90's and promptly got worse... don't know how to explain that one, really.

Does anybody else agree with me that we need to near one or two early songs other than Runaway per concert? ...

KJ

First of all, please stop referring to the band as 'him', it's annoying

Next 100 Years hasn't been played this tour

I'd like to see some songs off the first 2 albums too, but I doubt its gonna happen. They don't seem to like those albums much

Oh, and I like Everyday I think playing it occasionly is fine. Would prefer Undivided though off Bounce, or The Distance

This is getting off topic slightly but its not worth starting a new thread over....why did the band perform Wild is the wind, living in sin, wild in the streets in Canada and then nothing when they get back to the U.S.?

I think they are saving I Am for Europe.

He's talking mostly about Jon's issue.

Saying they don't like them much is wrong. They said they hate both albums.
I suspect that they don't like the albums because they're mayor hits came after slyppery when wet so they don't want to bother doing songs REALLY HARD to sing from the previous two albums. I believe they secretly love the albums.
And I think they don't play songs from them apart the-one-that-has-to-be-played (Runaway) because jon's voice wouldn't fit the song and that's a fact because his voice was so much different (apart from the high notes) that it is now or in the keep the faith / these days era (note that in the 92/95 era they didn't play much of the first 2 albums songs).

Maybe is like everybody said. That jon's voice isn't what it used to be.
But in the crush tour and own tour he sang almost every high note he could and if he couldn't he at least tried. They said TLFR wasn't going to be played live and here we have a bunch of TLFR for our delight. That sucks, I think they should sit down and make realistic set lists. NO TLFR and if no high note songs can be put then put rare songs that can be performed apart from the HAND songs. Everybody in this board know that they still CAN surprise us with a great amazing incredible show and that's why you all are waiting reading the setlists of every show and posting about what you'd like to hear here. I'm willing to keep the faith.

Finally I would like to agree with you (starter of the thread) in almost every way. You may have caught them in an off night but that's no excuse for such a shitty show. On or off night you DID pay your tickets as everybody else.

Personally speaking I thought Jon's voice sounded better when I heard him in Buffalo than in any of the recordings. I am also a singer, and I think what you call avoiding high notes is really the testament that he is smart. Think about it, he has gone out of his way to arrange the songs so that he can sing them well and not wear himself out so that he can perform a 2 1/2 hour live show night after night. You would not find this to be true with many other acts.

So would you rather have the high notes that you have heard a million times on recordings (and probably would not add much to the enthusiasm of the show), or a 2 1/2 hour concert with many opportunities to see the band????

i know what u mean about SWW im just saying some people seem to think that he can hit notes like he did in 1993 he cant. and im saying that one of the main reasons he cant do it now is because he wrecked his voice with constant touring and singing like that. no one in the world could go on doing that forever.

from the bootlegs ive heard so far he sounds way better than on bounce.

I've been to 4 shows this tour including both Tampa shows and IMO Jon has sounded great at all of them. I went to the Omaha show with 4 other girls. Three of them weren't even really Bon Jovi fans and they all talked about how great Jon sounded and how impressed they were that he was one of those singers who actually can sing live.

I agree with the others who believe Jon has quit smoking and his voice has gotten stronger again because of that.

About bootlegs--I've realized that no matter how good the recording most of them are not professional and don't capture the real sound. I've got shows I went to on CD/DVD and it's not the same. No one with a tiny camera or recorder that they snuck in is going to capture true sound.
