In that case, stop compalaining about Australia, or mensioning, not getting the tours. If you don't mind spending the money, why don't you fly over to the States, and see the tour there?

Roughly this is how much (assuming I remember everything) this summer's tours are costing me....

Bon Jovi - £90 + £20 accomadation, £20 train, £30 merchendise - total £160
Yes - £15 train, £20 accomodation, £45 ticket - total £80
Peter Gabrial - £35
Springsteen £40
Wakeman £20
Whitesnake £32
Keith Emerson £25

That's roughly £400, and I'm sure there are concert's that have slipped my mind.

I've just spent £500 on a synth...... So from now till Summer, I'm going ot have spent just shy of a grand, on music!!!!!!!!! Don't ****in call me cheep!!!!!!!!

Why should Whitesnake do an amazing concert, in top gear for £32, when Bon Jovi have a strole on stage for £45?????? I expect a band to be worth the price on the ticket, and unfortunatley, I don't think Bon Jovi put as much into it as other bands do..... THey're still brillaint giving 70%, but they're never going to be the best on that, and they'll not be able to compete with other bands with that..... I'm talking about quality now as well, not ticket prices......

Set lists are important with Bon Jovi. Bands like Deep Purple will largely do the same set everynight, but because there is so much improvisation, the shows are very very different. I saw 3 shows last year in close sucession (plus another two earlyer on) and althoguh the set was the same, the show was by no means the same! Bon Jovi don't improvise as much, so Bad Name, will sound the same on just about every show. The way that they change things is through the sets, it's how they've always done it in the past. If they don't change the sets around enough, and don't bring in the raraties, then they lost the thing that makes one show different from the other..... The three things that are most clear from the MK show, is when Jon made Richie repete the solo, making it longer, unlike the other performances on that tour; Keep The Faith, into screams/Sympathy, because they do improvise a lot in this sec; and Sleep When I'm dead, because he did a scream in a place he never does one......

Although I havn't seen the shows, and it is possiable (yeah right) that they are genuenly coming on an improvising, Richie doing different solo's to the ones on the studio, different endings, starts (I'm guessing most of Jon's speaches are the same ) but that's not the sort of band they are, even in the 80's they didn't really do this, not much anyway. I'm guessing therfore, that the fact the sets are very similar means the shows are similar thus systematic, and probably tend towards boaring.....

If I pay my money over, I earn the right to critisis the show (and tour )

To see a concert is not a lot of money, and if you are seeing an amount of concerts that you think quantifies a lot of money, then why go? If you think it's a lot of money it probably is because you don't really want to spend it on them, so dont. Although the Brits always are a bunch of cheap, bitching pri*ks....renound world over.
If we r so cheap - as Mr McRock has said - why don't u fork out to see a show??? - Instead of saying u don't get any & telling us all we should be grateful we can pay extortionate amounts of money for a near re-run??

I'm gonna be doing alot of travelling & paying well over £500 - probably over double that.

& your seriously telling me that BJ aren't happy to attract fans to numerous gigs??? What kind of marketing ploy would that be?? Out of 25 songs - what is 2 or 3 rare ones?? Instead of covers??

These r all reasonable requests & not the world we r asking for. Maybe if Jon took longer than 30 mins to decide the setlist it'd be better.

& maybe if u were a bit more tolerant & less abusive, these posts could become grown up discussions.

Mike

In a way I'd agree, althouh I don't think they spend 30mins on it!!!! I'm guessing that they have a set for the tour, that's made up of classics, songs they have out as singles, and one or two others, the've been playing on past tours. I think any rare songs, are probably not written into a set, but more improviesed (i.e the band on their best), but this doesn't seem to happen too much

Yeah - I said that 'cos thats what JBJ says - in a boastful sort of why, however was thinking whilst driving home from work that maybe he / they should spend a bit of time planning for each gig.... after all thats what I have to do for meetings at work

Things like Raise you Hands do seem to sort of evolve into a set..... sort of thing they played once, twice, then just kept it in. I agree in principle. I personally think there is absolutely nothing wrong with this formula, so long as you get the set right in the first place! At the mo, I don't think Bon Jovi's set is up to much, and I don't think it caters for the fans who do have all the albums, who want to hear something rare. I think before they go out on tour, they should be looking at say 6 songs, that they havn't played for 8years+, from Bon Jovi, 7800 NJ, Keep The faith and These days (I know this wouldn't come under the 8 year rule.... but still). They need to get a more solid tour set......

I've always had the impression that Jon has the say on the set, and I think it's probably time to change that. When Jon's on top form, things are great, the band will do the rarer songs, and take more risks (i.e opening with Boys are Back in Town, doing Homebound Train e,t,c). If Richie, or Tico could say "how about we do....", and it wasn't the situation where they just go along with Jon, then I think you'd get a more ballanced set. At the end of the day, I can understand Jon 'going through the motions' occatinally on stage (well, I can't, he should thank his bloody stars he's there!!!!!!), but at the moment, it seems Jon off form = Band off form..... They need to be awear of this, and have the other's more active in getting to the fans what they want.

It would also be great if Bon Jovi actually wrote "?"'s into the set, say two or three. Songs they will change night to night, that they'll decide to play that day. Still have the rareties that are in the sets, and classics e.t.c. but have these guarenteed one off songs that they play. That way you don't get people knowing the set. I'm sure the band could now, without any prompting, jam through more or less all their songs, you don't tend to forget the songs you write yourself!

Thats what I mean though - by having a real good think before hand they can only make it better.

What would be best is if they did no thinking at all, they didn't even bother to write down a set.

Instead, they employ a 'pizza parlour jury' to do the set for them.....Bagsy President!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, it's the same old story - EVERYTHING that is worth complaining about can all be directed and links back to Jon being the devil. If the band really had a big problem, I'm pretty sure they could speak up but it's easier to sit on the sidelines of the internet and blame everything on Jon... unless you're in the room with the band when that set list is created, you're talking out of your ass. Furthermore, haven't you even seen a set list? There are always songs the 'might' perform... there's some football word they call it. Complain all you like and talk about the band as if they're characters in some Dungeons & Dragon adventure you make up - you don't have a clue unless you're witness to what goes on. Otherwise, it's all conjecture and imagination.

It's called discussion my friend. Due to the fact nobody here has ever been in the band (unless Alec is hanging around somwhere) so nobody knows anything. That's why we speculate, and guess what happens....

Plus, if you've ever watched the Backstage all area's vid, you'll have seen Jon writting out the set for one of the Hammersmith shows, on his own. Plus from things the band have said in the past, it seems like he writes the sets (or at least that's what the band tells su)...

When I saw BJ in Huddersfield, Jon was off form, the rest of the band weren't, but Jon was. This pulled down the entire show, which was boring, and to be honest rather pathetic. Three days latter, Jon came out with a score to settle at MK, and the show was increadible. The band does rest a lot on Jon, as he is the frontman, and predominent songwritter. Therefore, I'm not being unfair to blaim poor sets, and performances on him, as he does account for I'd say over 70% of the band.

I'm sorry, am I sitting on the sidelines of the internet????? last time I checked, I wasn't on a tour bus with Bon Jovi, and have never had the opotunity to sit down as one of the band and voice my opinion infront of the band!

The band can't speek up because at the end of the day, it's Jon's band, not theirs. If they start to cause a fus, a rift in the band, who do you thinks gonna go? Jon or David???? At the end of the day, they can maybe make one or two suggestions, but if they started to try to be equalis with Jon in the band, problems would start. The order of the band has always been Jon in charge, Richie second in command, the band have joked about this, but it does seem to be the system they have.

If there are songs they might perform fine..... but I want to see them in the sets that have been played. The sets have been virtually all the same, but for one or two songs. My problems with the sets go deeper than just not varying the odd song too often. I couldn't give a stuff whether they swap Bounce with Next 100 years, because theyr'e boths songs I'm not that interested in. Although I don't expect the band to do a set just for me, there are more than enough people who have been asking for raraties, and old 80's numbers to be revived that the band should listen, and show this in the sets. The fact is they don't.

I only read this thread now... For me personally, the set list on paper doesn't mean much. I know that when I go and see a concert, I will just get lost in the music, and not complain about not hearing such-and-such song. Maybe, now that we're going to 8, hearing Bad Medicine or Everyday every time will get a bit old. But hey - I know that beforehand, I know that I will probably hear the same songs over and over. Still, for me, that isn't the same show 8 times over. Each night there is something different going on - audience has a lot to say about what a concert will be like. Call me easily satisfied if you will - so what. I go there to enjoy the music and the atmospheare, and I know for a fact I will not leave a BJ concert unsatisfied. To me, the show adds up to more than the sum of the 23.8 songs played. And of the regular songs on the set list, I don't have a lot to complain about.

If a stadiums is filled with 50 000 fans, maybe 1000 of them are die-hard fans, if even that. And if of that lot one hundred people want to hear Breakout, that equals there being 100 people enjoying the song, maybe the other 900 die-hards liking it because it's rare, and 49000 people who don't know what hit them.

Of course, I'm all up for treats, and I feel that in the concerts I've seen so far in my life, there's always been some kind of a treat. I've never been bored in a BJ concert (well, maybe in Turku 2000 when Jon was going on about that girl in a bar for 10 minutes ), and I don't think I ever will...

As for money - I'm paying a s**t load of money to see the concerts I'm seeing, but that doesn't make me think that the band should give me special treats or that they owe something to me because I pay all that money (and it's much more than 100 pounds). That's just selfish. If you say that because you're paying £40 a concert you should have a say in the set list - well, that would be one heck of a concert, with 50 000 songs played.

About the rare songs Mike McRock, Letitrock et al want to hear, why don't you just request a song at a concert? Have you ever even tried that? Jon notices song requests and fulfills them as best he can. It's worth the shot. How the heck is he supposed to read your mind if you don't say it to him???
