That's just the silly backstagers unable to hear anything critical against the band.
I'd say it's a combination of all three. Firstly I should say that although there is room for improvment in all aspects of the live shows, I'd still wanna see Bon Jovi over anybody else and I have yet to see anybody who can touch them in a live enviorment. I also don't think their set-lists are that bad. As I said, there's room for improvment but on balance I think Jon dose a good job. Going on the last tour, they had a nice balance of new songs, classics and rarely played songs. Always, I Believe, Diamond Ring, Damned and In These Arms all made reappearences. And think about it from his perspective. He's gotta please current fans by playing new stuff (which they'd obviously wanna do anyway). For the one offers, he'd have to include the classic hits and then they usually throw in a few rarer songs for the longtimers. He's kinda damned no matter what he dose though. If he were to drop alot of the boring classics and do much rarer stuff, the one-offers will go away pissed. If he dose too much new stuff, the mulleters will be pissed and when he tries to please all, people always find something to moan about.
In saying that though, why aren't the shows as good as they could be? Obviously they don't care ENOUGH. I'm not saying they don't care, they obviously do want to please people otherwise why would they play for so long? But if they were really committed to being the best in the world Jon would quit smoking, atleast while on tour, so his voice would be in good shape and he could sing some of the higher songs. They'd rehearse longer to get the rarer songs right, and figure out new ways to play songs that are too high for Jon now. And by hearsing longer, they could tighten up and discover new ways to make things more exciting.
To classify it as "lazy ****ers who just don't care" is not only incredibley ungrateful, it's just down right stupid. Like I said above, if they really were lazy ****ers who don't care, why are they spending this full week rehearsing? Why are they gonna go out on the road and play 2 and half hours and more every night? It sure as hell isn't for the money.
