Why I'll Be There For You?

I believe he plays IBTFY because of two things:

* They decided that Richie should do a BJ song that people knew and could sing along.

* Richie loves IBTFY, he said it many times. (when they wrote it was kinda bluesy and he "likes that stuff")

While we might love it when Richie does Stranger, the truth is most of the crowd only cares about Jon and if the guitarist comes on and sings something they've never heard, they won't give him the respect he deserves. With I'll Be There For You, it's easier for the crowd to get involved (whoa oh oh) but at the same time it's not "sacrilege" (e.g. if Richie sang Prayer it wouldn't go down so well).

With Blaze, that's so well known it's thought of as a band song. And Blood Money, while few know it, is very short. It's magical for a lot of us, but the casual fan views it as nothing more than an intro to Blaze.

Richie should just do a tour

I think they are giving one song too much credit, but I've never been to a show so I wouldn't really know the impact of a song nobody cares about in the middle of a set.

Anyway, Richie has many great songs. To me it feels like a waste having him there onstage with a guitar and a mic and not getting to hear even one song
