I think it may be a mix of things. Yes Richie appears to be sober and in better shape. Also I agree with everyone else in the fact that Jon's voice has improved tremedously compared to the HAND tour and he is able to perform songs that he couldn't.
We also know and most on this board have both predicted and reported that the LH songs haven't gone down well in Europe. Also, a lot of the post 2000 songs don't go down all that well either and the band has realized this. In addition, they have acknowledged that the European fans know the songs and not just the hits or choruses.
Jon has also revealed that he reads the boards and doesn't like taking criticism. We know that he took the Prudential reviews to heart and he tried to make changes like getting rid of the stage and ditching the corny opener. So, if he truly does read the boards (or someone for the band reads the boards) then I'm sure he/they would read the many comments made about the lack of mixing the setlists, rarities and surprises. I can also imagine that the band are taking the somewhat half full shows to heart and are being motivated to put on great shows.
Sorry for the bit of rant, but that's just my guess why we are seeing all the rarities.
