Whether we like it or not, Creed have more of a following these days. I was just making the point that bands that most people class as 'great opening acts' wouldn't want to be opening.

I'm gonna have my say...

a) Bon Jovi support act's are shit, including Live... Used to be good in the form of Skids, Van Halen, Vai e.t.c, but on the tours I've seen they give you 40 mins of absolute drivil...

b) Whitesnake would kick Bon Jovi's arse. Whitesnake set was better than any I've seen Bon Jovi do, and that includes Manchester 96, and Milton Keynes 2001, which I know people around here rate highly... Whitesnake have everything, they are 100% excitement band, there was nowhere for them to go but longer, they couldn't have done a better show... Bon Jovi only ever got to this level on New Jersey (well, Slippery and 7800) tours, and have not even gotten close in the 90's/00's.

The thing is, Bon Jovi are one of the best live bands about, but a lot of that has to do with the bands that are about.. They're the ONLY good real stadium band (I class Springsteen as arena), who are putting out good sets, and doing a good show... However, they aren't competing with the Whitesnakes, Deep Purple's, Vai's, Yes' of this world, because they're simply not firing on all guns, not pushing with every second they're on stage, and are not producing increadibly intense music. They were, but they arin't now...

Popularity has nothing whatsover to do with music.. Live are a big band, but that doesn't make them a good band.. Some of the best concert I've seen, and some of the best musicians I've seen have been playing in bar/club gigs... i.e I saw Carl Palmer along with maybe 100-150 people, yet he's still one of the best drummers in the world. Whitesnake may not be considered big big nowerdays, and coudln't have chart success, well at least certainly not with singles, but they're still pretty much the most exciting band you're ever likely to see live!

Whitesnake hasn't enough fans to be a support act... Bon Jovi could get 10 more people to come to the concert WITHOUT them.

so how to you judge bon jovi to be a good band? at the end of the day, a good band is subjective of the listener, so to say Live aren't a good band just because you don't like them is bollox.

does anybody really care who the support act are anyway? did you pay your money to see bon jovi or the support? would you be complaining if there was no support?

have you ever heard of Cozy Powell? John Sykes? Tommy Mooney? to name but a few?

Ummm...ok. Whitesnake may have been good "back in the day" but they suck now. I saw them a few months back, and boy, was I sorry I wasted my money. Just because someone was good years ago, doesn't mean they are good now (as I found out). Matchbox Twenty opened your tour a few years ago...here they headline their own shows. Matchbox wanted a way to expose themselves to Europe...and what better way than to open for Bon Jovi, who gets alot of fans at their shows? The Goos are a good band...they were huge in the late 90's, but now they couldn't headline their own show. They are really good, too. I would prefer to see Live over Sheryl Crow. She just doesn't jive with Bon Jovi, even if they are friends. Maybe Kid Rock will show up for 'Picture.' That would be worth the pain of having to suffer through her set. Oh, well. I could always show up late.....

i know what you are saying but the only reason whitesnake wouldn't blow them out of the audience is that most these days are not fans of "rock" if you know what i mean. BJ are still very much rock but i mean they have a different understanding of what rock really is and so whitesnake would just be a very good support but they'd rather have ronan keating

my point is that in japan/south america... maybe even north america whitesnake would prove a support act to keep them on their toes

i'm sorry but while live are a support act i will appreciate much more than previous years' acts i still don't think they are "rock" per se

i don't think whitesnake, or most other 'rock' bands would be able to play with bon jovi anywhere in the world. i don't think the japanese even consider bon jovi a 'rock' band anymore so it's daft to put a 'rock' band up with them. you put whitesnake up before them and there's gonna be that little audience input it'd be pointless.

i think the only way they could get away with it is as festival headliners.

but like i said, are you actually that bothered who's supporting? i know i'm not

i'm glad whitesnake aren't supporting - very glad! because i'm going to be missing the starts of the shows i think... getting there maybe at 7 or 8.

everyone is missing the point - i could have said any band other than whitesnake

someone said something about why would these bands want to open when they have their own tours

my point is that a band like scorpions can headline US and Russian/East European dates... but they can't come to the UK... same with Seb Bach and many bands that tour only in the environments they are popular in

support act slots are not for "new" or established bands necessarily

the prime motive is to open them up to markets

joviscout (aka nobhead) - if you did bother to read even the posts you claimed you did read you'd see i always acknowledge BJ as a great live band

i'd expect offensive posts if the title of this thread was "Joviscout is a pyschopathic freak" but not with the title this has been given
