Default Wolverhampton Review, The Cowboy Rides to Wolverhampton

Well, picked up a friend and got a lift with my sister to the local train station, walked to the ticket booth ans asked for a single to Wolverhampton. "Ahh, going to see Bon Jovi?" asked the man as he pressed on his ticket machine. A cheeky grin and slight nod of the head was enough confirmation to his question. We looked around the train platform, and my friends eyes nearly popped out his head when he saw how many young women in skimpy tops were in view. Yup, Johnny boy sure can get them sexy women going to his church. The train journey was suprisingly slow. Wolverhampton is only 30 minutes drive from my house, but the train journey took over an hour and a half including the changeover. But the time passed by talking about music and of course the rather strange individuals you see on trains, especially as we neared Wolverhampton. The people of today *sighs*

Departed the train and entered the glamourous city of Wolverhampton with one thing on our minds, "I want a drink" so we decided that the first pub we saw, we were going to. And after about a 2 mintute walk we were greeted by a beautiful blue sign saying O'Neils, a great big grin appeared on our faces, which only got bigger when we walked into the pub to be greeted by Livin On a Prayer and a swarm of Bon Jovi fans. Hmmm I thought, I think I have found paradise. A few drinks were depatched along with a nice Steak and Chips (Fries to all you pesky americans ). I then sat back, content thinking I am really going to enjoy this day, when my mate, the devious, cruel bast***d placed 4 foul smelling, shot glasses filled with the most potent stomache cringing alcoholic smell you could think of. I looked up at him and said, "I am not drinking that, I will be on my back" two each was the only reply.

The drinks were despatched.... very painfully, and I immediately looked at the sign "toilet" thinking anymore of those things, and I will definately be needing to go in there. The seat soon felt more relaxing, the women even more attractive and the conversations even more comical. We were talking about all the other great concerts we have been to, Wembley 95 Bon Jovi, Wembley 99 Aerosmith etc and what we were expecting today.

We stumbled out of O'Neils and walked next door into a very very busy Weatherspoons pub packed with rockers and Bon Jovi fans, and some pretty girls in Cowboy Hats, We have to go in here!!!!!
Drinks were very very cheap, and the bar very poorly undernumbered in staff (really you would have thought that they would have realised that they were going to be busy that afternoon). Needless to say a lot more alcohol was consumed and we looked at our watches and it was 6.30pm. We decided that we better get to the Stadium now as we didnt know where we were going. We saw large numbers of people waking a certain direction, so we thought it wise just to follow them. We walked for about 3 minutes, and then began to get bored, so we thought we may as well stop for 1 quick drink as we approached a pub by Molineux. My friend was complaining about having to drink in this pub which I suppose is a shrine to Wolverhampton Wanderers football fans on a Saturday afternoon and as he was a hardened Birmingham City fan, drinking in this pub for him is like drinking with your enemy. I told him to shut his gob and get the round in.

We then left for the stadium, the atmospehere on approach to the stadium was electric, you could sense the excitment and enjoyment of the thousands of people swarming around. The sun was shining, and people were smiling. I could feel the toxins in my bloodstream, I was going to my 5th Bon Jovi concert, and I was an excited little boy. :P. We entered the stadium, the noise was already deafining, and thousands of faces and arms washed through the stadium in a mexican wave. A little disorientated and confused we walked through no really knowing what direction we were heading in when I felt an arm on my shoulder. "Excuse me sir, have you got a wristband?" "Umm no was my reply". "then you cant come through here" I looked up, and regained my senses, and to my amazement we were right in the front of the stadium, looking up at the stage. Impossible I thought, were only just arrived, how the hell did i manage to get here so close?? and where did all these fit women come from???? We are staying here I thought .

A few minutes passed, and the anticipation was overwhelming, the music was beating out of the speakers, and everyone knew what was going to happen. The screams were unbelievble as the audience saw Tico take position at the drums, Richie picking up his guitar and Jon walking out on the stage. The opening chords for bounce soon followed, and Wolverhampton exploded. Even though I knew what songs were likely to be played, nothing prepared me for the sheer passion and intensity the songs were being played at and sang. Jon's voice smashed though the stadium with raw power, his vocals were unbelievable, It seemed even Richie was having to push himself to keep up with Jon when he was backing. Jon showed that when he wanted to, even Richie was in his shadow vocally. The pace was relentless, Jon laid down the gauntlet and the challege was on for the audience to keep up with him, song after song, high note note after high note. The mood only sombered slightly when he started I got the girl and I sobered up, why does he insist on still playing that song when the audience just look up blankly at him in a bored lets get the next song on expression. The entire show just flew by, it only seemed like 40 minutes at the most, but it was 2 and half hours.
We walked out of the stadium at a snails pace, and all I could hear were peoples voices shocked by what they had just witnessed, not one bad word could be heared, just admiration. I have seen Bon Jovi a number of times, but this performance had to be in the top 2.

If they tour again next year, then I'll make sure I'll "Hook Me Up" with some tickets.

So here you have the Wolverhampton pub guide oh and that little band from New Jersey who came to visit for the day.
