Those girls are there because they have followed the band around for years all over the place, not just in Europe. I think it's great that the band recognise the fact that they have followed them. I have a friend who follows AC/DC when they tour, he has done everywhere, America, Europe, Australia, Japan. He is now friends with the band especially Brian and they have sent him numerous stuff over the years, like gold discs, He gets backstage at every show and doesn't pay for a ticket. To say that though, he will always buy his first ticket of the tour just incase I think it's just a bit of jealousy, you know they are going to be there so why complain about it?
The vip thing has been done wrong this tour and Matt knows about it. The vips complained and Matt changed it so they could go in first but then the people who had been in the queue for hours and hours complained, I see their point as it's halfway through a tour. Think it has changed back now but at Manchester I'm sure the ticketmaster vip went in before or at the same time as the fanclub.

I liked how U2 did it last tour - in order to get into the elipse at the front of the stage (their equivelent of Golf Circle) your normal GA ticket was scanned as u entered the venue and it was randomley determined by computer as to whether you got up the front or not. If you were lucky enough to get selected you could take someone else with you I think too.

Bono himself said this is because it was not fair on alot of the people who queued for ages and still didnt get upfront - he actually said that he was tired up playing to the same bunch of people everynight (the fanclub in the first several rows).

At City's ground for U2 it was first come first served with the wrisbands. We had been in queue from dinner time and got on the outer bit of the walkway.....great view! The guy said they had so many per entrance for the pitch.

Aside from that, they have become good friends with the band over the years and these people are the only ones to have ever been given such privilidges by Jon.
They have helped the band out with many things in the past as well. Jon often asks them about setlists and which songs they should do etc.

There are lots of fans now who travel all over and go to loads of shows, spending thousands of pounds/dollars on tickets, maybe hoping they will get the same privildges.
But it doesn't work like that. Sure, Jon and the band will get to know their faces but they wont know them as friends.

I went to one of the U2shows and I got into the pit. what you forgot to add though was that the GA tickets were the cheapest seats in the house. Only 50$, while all lowers were 129$. There system was the best i've seen.

It should be first-come first-served. End of story.

How exactly does this champion the people who've been queuing for ages? Surely it just means that people who roll up hours after them have a chance of cutting in front of them?

To be honest, it doesn't bother me as i have no desire to be front row. Don't want to camp out and would rather be around 5 rows back which I can do through the fanclub. The people that queue up will still probably get front row just not central, but to be honest, there are just as many Richie and Dave fans out there. That makes it a bit more packed on the left side of the stage as both Richie and Dave are there. It's down to the individual and I think that when the next tour comes around and if it comes in that vip people get in before the fanclub there won't be as many camping out for hours because that barrier spot won't be there. Remember, it's all about money at the end of the day and if people are prepared to pay it then they will carry on doing it. Just my opinion of course

Well, I guess those that DO queue for longer will get to the front of GA which is better than nothing, esp as the stage ramp was like BJ on the HAND tour.

Guess it all comes down to the fact that Joe Average then has a better chance with this lottery type system of getting upfront than of the other option of beating the real U2 fanatics who always clog up the front rows night in and night out on the tour.

It's fairer this way I still think.
