Default The Official Simpsons Thread

Since a few of us are on our way to hijacking the Bruce thread, here's the place to share the love and/or hate of the Simpsons!

What are you favourite episodes? Least favourite?

Who's the best character?

Best one time character?

Like every other sitcom, the first few seasons are good and funny, the other 20 seasons have a few ups, but for the most part, pretty boring.

I quite enjoyed the movie though. I still don't know if that was barts penis or his middle finger...

I've got a chainsaw... Vrm rm rm rm rm.....

Thank you big boob lady!

It is not only the greatest television series of all time, it's the greatest piece of pop-culture ever created. I think it's the smartest and wittiest show ever made, especially during the Golden Period of Seasons 3-9. And even though quality has somewhat dipped, I've never seen an episode that didn't have one legitimate "laugh out loud" moment. Not to mention the fact that each season has still at least had 1 or 2 pure genius episodes. As for favorites, it's too hard for me to choose. I'll attempt to compile a Top 10 Episode List though.

Standout episodes off the top of my head would have to be the camp krusty eisode, and the limited edition krusty burger/lisa spelling bee episode.

I agree with Brian - golden age for the Simpsons was seasons 3-9. In fact, all of my top episodes come from that period. It's pretty remarkable how this show has permeated popular culture. Who remembers being caught up in the whole "who shot Mr. Burns?" stuff? It's the 'Who shot J.R.?" for Gen Y. Heck, they even turned some 7-11s into Kwik-E-Marts to promote the movie. That's big!

These are my favourite episodes...with some fave quotes from each:

Homer at Bat - as sad as it is, I can probably recite this episode from start to finish. "My starting pitcher thinks he's a chicken!"

Marge vs the Monorail - I call the big one Bitey!

Last Exit to Springfield - Dental plan! Lisa needs braces. Dental plan!

Homer Goes to College: Curly, straight, curly, straight

Lisa vs Malibu Stacey - Hello Smithers. You're very good at turning me on

You Only Move Twice - Hank Scorpio!

The Springfield Files - I was a huge fan of the X-Files and I love the sing-along at the end.

Brother from Another Series - Probably my favourite Sideshow Bob episode!

Missionary: Impossible.

One of the best Simpsons episodes ever.

"Help me Jebus!"

'The Mansion Family' has a classic moment when Homer is crying about wanting to be rich. At the end, when the 'Gracie Films' clip pops up and the lady shushes, Homer says 'don't shush me you rich bastard!'

Best show ever, probably.

One of my fave lines is from that episode

"i'll just type it up on my invisible typewriter" from Wiggam.

I like Cletus at the carwash when he says

"All right younguns, bath time. Cover up your eyes and drop your trouser Who wants wax?"

An amazing show in it's peak. Now it's very bad (instead of proper jokes and storylines like in the earlier seasons they're a bit "wacky"), but, my god, on form it's fucking hilarious.

I know that a lot of people don't like it these days, but I still do, very much so. I love the classics too, but the newer series have become quite strange and often more surreal, and this appeals to me.

I'm not sure I could come up with a single specific favourite episode, but I do like the Halloween specials they come up with. One of my favourites is the Dracula one...

Lisa: Mom, Dad, Mr Burns is a vampire, and he has Bart!
Mr Burns: Why, Bart's right here.
Bart: Hello Mother. Hello Father. I missed you during my uneventful abscence.
Homer: Oh Lisa, you and your stories: Bart is a vampire, beer kills brain cells. Now let's go back to that...building...thingy....where our beds and tv...is.

Homer: SUPER FUN HAPPY SLIDE!
Lisa: No, Dad!
Homer: Oh, I guess killing will be fun enough.
