He was called slowhand because of the amazing phrasing that he used when he played with the early supergroups back in the 60s. He didn't need to play fast or do anything spectacular, he just played the notes with so much feeling that he only needed 1 or 2 to hit you! Its considered to be one of the highest compliments that can be paid to a guitarist, espescially a bluesman.

Oh i know that I'm just saying i'm surprised he's referred to as that all the time considering he can also play fast when he wants to.

I don't think there is any doubt that Clapton WAS one of the best. I've got to say though, I was disapointed with Clapton when I saw him, the show was about 30% good, and the rest was a yawn. I didn't like his most recent album at all.... I then he's really lost the edge that he used to have when he was in Cream, then when he got into the blues. It's now all sort of easy music, where Clapton seems to put little into his songs, or playing. Don't get me wrong, if you see him, you're still seeing a great guitarest, but don't expect to see what you get on the Albert hall, or Cream DVD's, because he just doesn't have that edge anymore. The best stuff he did was the acoustic songs, the best of which were bell bottom blues, and the highlight for me of the show, 'tears in heaven'. The old cream songs crashed, Layla couldn't have been duller, and don't get me started on the was it 'impressions?'.

I saw John Mayall with Peter Green a while back, but I don't think I'll be going to this one. Should be a great gig...

I've seen JM a couple of times. First time I thought he was great, then the second with Peter Green I thought he was overshadowed by Green... Maybe it was just the night but I found him a little boring. And my Dad who's seen him on a number of times (dating back to the 60s) doesn't like the band he had at all, thinks they're the worse...

That's the reason I wanted to go this time, I might not go and see him again, so it would be nice to see him doing somehting memerable.
