Uhm....that was pretty off. Her voice goes in and out on tour just like anyone else....Jon Bon Jovi anyone? Her voice has vastly improved since the 80s due to her training prior to Evita.

If you watched the 1990 Blond Ambition tour on HBO....it was the last show of the tour and her voice was quite weathered...but at the same time it was precisely that roughness and her determination to deliver that illicit admiration from the audience....most peers would back down.

(The following is not directed soley at jess)

It's expected that the mere mention of Madonna's name is going to invoke jeers and snide remarks as is the case with most major stars....but as is the case with most major stars...too often those jeers and remarks come from people who really aren't in a position to offer an objective critique because they don't really know the artist...they've just been exposed to their most high profile appearances, such as on Awards shows. When people do this with Bon Jovi and make comments on how they are all about Jon's looks and songs like Bad Medicine, that they suck and should just go away cuz they are 80s hair band has-beens.....we go to war and let them know the depth of their ignorance. Because it's true...they don't know and cannot pretend to know unless they have actually heard the albums and seen the shows.

Madonna is one of those high profile stars that really do deliver. Michael Jackson was another (WAS being the keyword...up till Dangerous.) People would make snide remarks and write him off due to the wierdness and publicity. But remove all of that you had one badass performer who delivered every single time on stage, showing the audience why the name Michael Jackson is huge.

Unfortunately....it seems these types of stars will fade due to the record companies now attempting to manufacture mega-stars ala Britney Spears. As a result....people will forget the work and performance ethic that previously went into the making of super stars who got their by working their asses of and proving themselves. Their music, their performance, their shows are a result of their own work, reflecting their own lives. You do not get this from Britney Spears. It's all bland corporate product from top to bottom. There is something to be said of the videos...and she had has some good shows...but they are not a result of Britney herself....merely the production team behind the scenes.

One of my favorite parts of the Drowned World show is during Candy Perfume Girl.....where Madonna is rocking out on a black Les Paul...towards the end of the song...she walks up to the mic and yells out "F**K OFF MOTHERF**KERS" in response to all the doubters, naysayers, dismissers who tried to write her off as a talentless, "slept her way to the top," has-been. She stood her ground and came out with her integrity intact.

"F**K OFF MOTHERF**KERS"
Here's what BJ should have called their box set!

Madona's show wouldn't look so great to you if she yelled "100 000 000 million Madona fans can't be wrong!" now would it...

Great post btw.

True, and maybe she is not a very good singer even now but she is an artist anyway. At least she is talented, not like everyone who call himself an artist.

But believe me it was really bad

Hehe..I agree. It sounds more like Richie though as opposed to the balance between him and Jon. Maybe that's exactly why we have the title we do....Richie wanted this...Jon wanted McDonalds.

I saw Madonna and all I can say is OH MY GOD!!! She is absolutely amazing. This was a great concert. She is in great shape, she actually puts a lot of us to shame!! And her voice is terrific, those who say she can't sing live should eat their words! She sang so many of her old songs and it was great to hear.

Some highlights were the Scottish bagpipers and drummers that flowed beautifully in to Into the Groove, Like a prayer was amazing and of course Material Girl. It's amazing how all her songs have stood the test of time and they brought back some great memories!

I'm so glad I went and I would definitely pay that much again to see her.. she was worth every penny!

I know.... it has been 14 years since she came to Holland. Honestly if she tours again.. try and see her somewhere, she is so worth the money!! I really was shocked that I had to pay 80 euros.. but I'd pay it again just to see her.. not a lot of artists I would do that for!
