Was there really any demand for this?

Where is the second box set volume?

Probably not from the fans but I’m guessing because 2018 marks 40 years since the bands formation and their recent nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Don't most people just go on Spotify and find "This is Def Leppard" nowadays?

They most probably do. But like I say, the demand is most probably not mainly from fans if at all. Usual marketing/contract-filling stuff plus with a certain holiday season looming as well.

Like with any greatest hits album from any band, it's for casual fans and potential new ones. I won't be buying it myself as I already have everything it's offering, save for the new songs which i can purchase individually if I really wanted to. Like you, I'm only clamoring for either new material or Deluxe Editions/Box Sets.

A remix of Rock On is considered one of the "new songs"? Hard pass.

That 2004 best of was my first Def Leppard album. Remember listening to it when I was on the train on the way to the open day for where I ended up going to Uni ... it's now been 10 years since I graduated. Man, time flies!

My first was Vault in 2003, the 2CD edition with the 2nd disc containing live tracks from the Don Valley Stadium gig in 1993. Already familiar with some of the hits beforehand and I did already have a “copy” of X the previous year, but Vault formed the soundtrack to that summer for me and made me really fall for this band.

Yet I still picked up the 2004 Best Of (2CD version) in early 2005. Can’t remember exactly why, especially when I could have bought something like High ‘n’ Dry or On Through the Night (albums I was still yet to hear) instead.

Indeed it does! I have a similar experience with that album.

Def Leppard was my very first concert 10 years ago and in the months leading up to it, I listened to a lot of that 'Best of' album on my way to school leading up to the show. When Love and Hate Collide was my favorite. I thought the show was amazing, but I didn't know any better back then. Now I think they're just OK live.

I'm beginning to think I watched "Live In the Round" way too much and it just can't be topped, particularly without Steve's stage performance. I just saw them last Saturday with 8th row tickets. I definitely enjoyed the show, but there was still something missing on a personal level and I had that feeling back when I first saw them on the Adrenalize tour. Maybe my expectations in my mind are too high. Maybe I just overplayed them. I guess the best I can describe the feeling is "robotic."

Journey absolutely slayed me in contrast, but I only recently started getting to know their material beyond the obvious so everything was fresh and performed with heart. I'm in love now.
