I can't say I've stayed riveted to the Foo Fighters. I was mostly aware of them without really listening other than glancing at their videos.

Dave had my attention early on. His drumming style in Nirvana grabbed me, but I just didn't grab ahold. It wasn't actually until I caught the Best of You video on Palladia about 2 years ago that my curiosity went up. Even though it was just a video shoot, the passion Dave put into the performance was impressive. Then a good amount of exposure through Rock Band on Xbox 360 both to Nirvana and the Foos followed. I started looking up live performances and checked out Wembley on Blu-ray. Frankly, it's just damn tragic I'm on the late show. Better late than never though.

I can't say they are over-rated. There is too much dedication to the the craft. They get up there and work their asses off. If you really watch Dave bouncing up and down playing that guitar, you have late 80's Jon Bon Jovi meets late 80's James Hetfield. He's a rock and roll fan who loves playing who made it big and bigger and knows how blessed he is and is thankful for every bit of it.

I just watched and heard the video for Rope for the first time tonight (creative with a very early MTV video look to it. Love the concept) and I'm listening to the album right now at the link already given (like the way they did this with all of the comments along the wave-form of each song.) I'm pretty pumped since this is the first time I'll be on board for a new release. I'm only on Dear Rosemary, but I'm loving it (and by the time I finished my post edits...ironically... These Days... still hooked.) Looking forward to tomorrow on SNL.

Oh I agree, Dave is a true fan of music and often gets involved with other bands because of this. The energy he finds is amazing. Cannot wait to get the album in my hands. For me at the moment Limo is the best song, love the video as well.

I have always wanted to like them but never really have. I own all their albums and find myself only really liking the singles, there's ALOT of filler on their records. Fact.

But Wasting Light is awesome, they've really taken it up a gear. Very impressive.

I believe that is how you feel, but it is no "Fact."

The new album is great. The first six songs are the best album start I've heard in a long time.
"Bridge Burning" and "White limo" knock everything down and "Dear Rosemary" has such a fantastic chorus and melody.
The second half is weaker than the first but it's still a good level. Especially "Miss the misery" is a very good track in my opinion.

The production of the record sounds stunning and this is exactly what a rock record should sound like.

It's easily their best album since There's Nothing Left To Lose. The Foos have been guilty of stuffing recent albums with filler. After a good ten listens the same can't be said about Wasting Light. A few of the latter tracks take a few listens to soak in though.

The production is spot on, nicely warm and heavy. Some of the playing on the album is superb too, Chris seems to have been let off the leash and Taylor, well he's always been a tour de force.

I'd give it a solid 8/10

Can't wait to hear some of the stuff live.

I really like the new record, holds up pretty well with their best work IMO.
Then again, I'm in the minority in thinking that Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace was their best album, so who knows.
