Default America vs the UK

OK it's pretty much a fact that with the exception of crowded house from down under and Bryan Adams, pretty much nowhere else has contributed anything but shit to modern music beside the UK and US ie we're the only ones making good music

who's best out of those 2 though?

UK:
The Beatles
The stones
Queen
pink floyd
eric clapton
oasis
radiohead
coldplay
the cure
dire straits
eurythmics

US:
Elvis
Tom Petty & the heart breakers
Bon jovi
REM
Greenday
Simon and Garfunkel
Bruce Springsteen
foo fighters

conclussive evidence that the uK owns everyone at music.

Is Bryan Adams your most important example?Well...

1)I'd say only half of the bands you mentioned are really relevant.I mean: Oasis,Coldpaly,Green Day and Foo Fighters? What are they doin' on such lists?

2)Where are the HUGE German Bands that pretty much invented and reinvented Metal: THE SCORPIONS,ACCEPT, KREATOR or RAMMSTEIN?

3)Where are the Northern bands who actualy reinvented black metal and all that stuff?

4)What about all the electronical bands of the 80s who all came from continental Europe?

Now to the question:AMERICA!Mainly because of 80s GLAM which is my fave type of music.

On teh other hand if i'd be objective I'd say UK since BLACK SABBATH,DEEP PURPLE,HUMBLE PIE, The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal...well...

On the other hand again, Americans invented RnR:Chuck Berry,B.B. King, Elvis...

Well then again...Americans reinvented Rock with GRUNGE...well...who cares??!!

i forgot to put zepellin, the who and the kinks in...lets be fair, it just makes us look better anyways but there's 3 more to the list.

If you don't think Oasis are relevant with regards to music in the past decade then I doubt you've ever listened to a full album.

I put the foo's because Nirvana were huge but I think the foo#s carried that on and are massive....

what exactly did the scorpions do beside release a coupla big songs back in the day? didnt exactly change the landscape did they? never heard of the rest apart from rammstein which is kinda laughable to have them in the same league as the beatles.

there's nothing bands like kraftwerk et al were doig back int he 80s that joy division and new order weren't doing better.

Lou Begga was german ergo you lose by default.

and you don't know how many times I've had complete strangers ont he bus into town on a night out sing crociodile shoes at me Andy

crocodile shoes, crocodile shoes

What?

You're talking about Oasis and Foo Fighters and how big they are and say Scorpiosn just landed a few hits?
I'm not one of their biggest fans but they should be at least as big as Deep Purple.
On the other hand , a lot of guitar critics say Rudolf Schenker is one of the most underrated guitarists and there are a lot who consider him at least as good as Iommi or Blackmore.

Tokyo Tapes is one of the greatest LIVE ALBUMS EVER. And let's not forget their genuine albums like for example IN TRANCE which just kicks ass. Then again...I doubt you heard a fill Scorpions album(I have listened to whole Supersonic, btw)

Well...if you don't even know ACCEPT than what can I say? BALLS TO THE WALL is just a perfect metal album. It's unbelivable you haven't heard about them.I mean without knowing all their stuff i know they had a few albums in the American Top 10 being extremly heavy.

KREATOR is considered EUROPE's most important THRASH METAL BAND and having in mind they started at the same time with METALLICA I would put them above Metallica mainly for being true with themselves and still Thrashing around.

There are othe huge german Metal bands like HELLOWEEN or GAMMA RAY.

Of course RAMMSTEIN are not in the same league as THE BEATLES but well...at least they made something original, they play heavier music than anybody still you can see them on TV and don't forget they sing in German and still manage to sell out American Arena Tours. Beside, they got 10% of Iceland's population at one of their shows in Rejkjavik. No one else managed that. They have legions of fans and are definetly going to become part of rock history.

Of course, they don't belong in a league with The Beatles. On the other hand OASIS wouldn't belong in a league with RAMMSTEIN either.

KRAFTERK are considered THE PIONEERS of TECHNO music...well?Since when are JOY DIVISON anythin close to that?

And if it's about forgetting bands then you forgot a lot of bamds.Where are THE BEACH BOYS or T-REX or STEPPENWOLF or THE SEX PISTOLS just to name a few.

oh...and THe Foo Fighters are huge?!?!!!Well...I was a kid when Nirvana were BIG but hell...they were 1000 times bigger than Foo Fighters.

However...firts I read this thread I tought this was meant more like a joke mainly because of some bands that are and others that aren't in your list.
Well,I realised it's just stupid....

again, T rex were intentionally left out as was Bowie and alot of bands from that era because I didn't want to have about 50 great UK bands and only a handful of American ones and the beach boys were also left out intentionally as were G n R. I didnt want to be sitting here all day.

Rammnstein are a fad. the fact you go on about how heavy they are as opposed to how good their music is just furthers my opinion on that.

and you've still not convinced me about the scorpions. they might have some good songs but you won't find many peopkle in the street who regard them as anythign other than a band with a couple of hits.
