i'm also reading a floyd biography just now called pigs might fly, the inside story of pink floyd by mark blake.

it's amazing. it starts off a bit slow talking about their childhoods but we're not in swinging 60s london, floyd have taken off, syd has went mental and it's amazing how vivid a picture it conjures up of these people and places and times.

you should check it out oli. i got it from hmv for a fiver a while back.

Man, when you mentioned it in the Pay Day Treat thread I was gonna ask you to let me know how it was - I see it all the time where I live but it's been pretty expensive, which is why I've not yet bought it.

However, I shall travel into the city and check it out in HMV

Oh and I've heard of The Australian Pink Floyd, I THINK my parents have seen them, either them or someone else I know and have heard not a bad thing yet. And unfortunatly, they are the closest anyone will ever get to seeing Pink Floyd live

I have read elsewhere that the Australian Pink Floyd is awesome. If they were anywhere near me - I'd be there.

If you want Floyd history - try Nick Mason's book "Inside Out" - A Personal HIstory of Pink Floyd. Are you sure Mark Blake's book isn't called Comfortably Numb - I have that one.

Tell us how the show was when you get back.

kathleen in a word - unbelievable.

i really don't think floyd could have done it any better themselves.

i've seen good tribute bands, i've seen incredible tribute bands where the sound and resemblence has been uncanny but this was a step beyond that.

the light show was better than 99.9% of "real" bands light shows. the video they had in the background was great and the band synched up to it perfectly. they even had inflatables albeit a kangaroo instead of the school teacher

the sound was amazing. they were VERY loud but you could make everything out. all of the guys were amazing players, the 3 female backing singers were brilliant and all got to shine on different songs and "roger" sounded so much like waters that it was pretty scary.

He even did the hard k's that waters attacks the lyrics with.

unbelievable and the fact we got in for free was the iciing on the cake.

I wonder if they ever travel and come here? I used to love Pink Floyd shows. I've even been known to go to the planetarium to watch the Pink Floyd laser light show (pretty sad huh).

Sounds great Jim - getting in free is fine but I'll bet you wouldn't have minded paying if it was that good.

yeah i wouldn't have cared but getting into gigs for free is always nice and you get to look all smarmy going in through the vip entrance when the great unwashed are queueing up

they do tour america but there are no US dates on this current tour.

My brother (who's favourite band has been PF for as far back as I can remember, has a tattoo dedicated to them and everything, lol) has seen Australian Pink Floyd quite a few times, he loves them. My mum has also seem them once and really enjoyed it. I've seen videos of them performing, and I have to say they are definitely one of the best support acts. I'd love to see them someday.
