I love Metallica. Glad they got on back track with the very enjoyable Death Magnetic. Unlike the old school fan, though I do enjoy early Metallica; Black, Load & Re-load are my fav albums.

My only issues with Metallica are they take too long between records; and ST. Anger pretty much blows.

I can still enjoy them every now and then though but they are way past their prime. Apart from Trujillo they've all become very average musicians and are not the tight unit anymore they used to be. Lars is incapable of playing consisted (which is important for a drummer, eh?), Hetfield is losing his voice a bit and Hammet is getting more sloppier every tour. They get a lot of love for sticking around and getting back to form but anyone who really listens to their latest shows must realize that this is not the case.

First, yeah I like the Loads too very much. Maybe because we're here all not that closed minded "I am a metalhead and I just listen to true metal" kind of people
They are sooo good! Bluesy but still a heavy feel to it. Songs like Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn are simply masterpieces.
My favourite one from the thrash decade is Justice. It is not that overproduced but still better than St.Anger's raw mix.
DM is not that bad, i just hate the sound of it. I would like to hear such a huge production like on The Black Album. This is the best metal production that's out there for a loooong while now

I love Metallica. Their music got me into the likes of Megadeth, Machine Head, Pantera, Sepultura etc. For me, Master Of Puppets is the best Metal album ever made.

I've got all their stuff, and pretty much enjoy most of it. St.Anger was a let down, as was Reload. They really should have kept Load and Reload as one album. Death Magnetic is a return to form, although not nearly as good as anything from Kill 'Em All up to the Black album. (Broken Beat & Scarred is immense though)

I agree with Seb about their live performances. I've never rated Lars as a top drummer, and Kirk is soooooooo infuriating. He's got talent, but never seems to push himself. I've seen awesome solo's followed by sloppy ones, during the same gig! He's consistently inconsistant. Marty Friedman is streets ahead of him. That said, they still kick it live, just not as much as back in the day. I think they were at their tightest during the Damaged Justice tour. They really meant business in those days. Songs like Battery and Harvester Of Sorrow just f*ckin growled at you.

I know Kirk has come up with some great riffs, notably Enter Sandman, but i sometimes wonder what masterpieces would have been conceived if Dave Mustaine had remained. Megadeth are so underrated. Him and Hetfield are true riff masters!

I like Metallica, and they're one of 2 bands left that I HAVE to see that I haven't (Rage is the other one)

I actually like more of the album tracks like King Nothing or Bleeding Me than I do the more recognisable tunes like Enter Sandman or One. Bleeding Me's my favourite track. The version of that on the S&M album (which is one of my all time favourite albums) just blows me away.

Cyanide's my favourite track from Death Magnetic, and I like the album, but have only really listened to it all the way through once or twice.

I'd say I'm a casual Metallica listener rather than a huge fan.

S&M is brilliant! It turned out really well. I think they were one of the first to crossover with classical music before lots of other bands copied that.
Live they are tighter than some years some ago for sure! The setlists are more interesting and versatile than it was on their "comeback" with St.Anger.
But like you said the sloppines annoys me. It seems like Ulrich and Hammett don't need to practice because they are big in business and no one cares Especially the drums. There are far more cool double bass parts on the original recordings as he plays them live. Another point is that Hetfield's voice is worn out. But that can happen...

The Outlaw Torn is the best song on Load. Brilliant.

I agree that Hetfield's voice is a bit shaky these days. He often does Jon's trick of letting the crowd sing the harder notes, which is fine but at least Jovi's songs have key changes to warrant some of that lol. I'm not knocking Hetfield though. I still think he's a great frontman. And hearing Dave Mustaine murder Reckoning Day live, makes me realise that quite a few singers of 20 plus years do struggle to hit certain notes consistently after so many gigs/tours.

I wonder if Hetfield has forgiven Jon and co for the Monsters Of Rock events? I remember a while ago reading Hetfield answer a question about who he would least like to share a lift with, and saying "Jon Bon Jovi, because he still irritates me after all these years!"

He is still a great frontman for sure! Amazing how you can play such complex rhytm stuff and sing at once.
well, at least this poser bash between metal and hair rock is over nowadays. There aren't this borders anymore, I think it is childish because both had amazing skills.
Outlaw Torn is mind blowning yeah! The last track and it is nearly the best on the whole record.
I am looking forward what is going to come on the next album. I hope an evolution in the direction of DM. I have a feeling they get back to form after all those years...
