Actually, I read somewhere an interview in which Bono said that he likes Kayne West and that he's approaching to hip hop music cause he has always liked "experimentation"....

ugh - Bono is not going to rap - ugh.

The closest he might be getting to is in the form of Aersomith doing that Walk this Way thing and REM's The Outsiders.

Bono is NOT going to rap.

I personally LOVE U2. I think they deserved every grammy they won this year, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb kicks ass. I would even be willing to say it is my favorite U2 record and I own all of them except 1. They are still making great music, and "Bomb" has sold almost 10,000,000 copies around the world. They are excellent live and they won those grammys because they still make the best music.

It's interesting to see how people talk about album sales as this is the parameter to measure a band's quality.....

TLFR never really got any kind of acclaim in the UK (it should have as it was one of the best albums that year!), but if U2 followed suit they would be hailed as geniuses over here. And just think how many Grammys they would have after that...

Exactly.

While it shows a bands longevity and the fact that they are doing "something" right, it does nothing to prove their quality as a band.

New Kids On The Block anyone?

Beatles anyone? Led Zeppelin anyone? AC/DC anyone? Status Quo anyone?

I think sales do tell something about a bands quality. Most of the great bands sold shitloads of records. Of course, a lot of crappy bands sold a lot to but not over long periods of time. And besides, if you look at how much Beatles, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, U2, Status QUo, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Metallica and Deep Purple sold together you would get more than 2.5 Billion records which is definitely more than ALL boy-bands and Britney Spears similar creatures sold together.

U2's got at least 4 or 5. You can't do that without quality.
