Oh well Queen... I was so much into them when I was 13, 14. I remember going on vacations to Scotland with my family and listening to them all the time, they were a brilliant soundtrack. Later I lost them, and nowadays I hardly listen to them. But from time to time the spark comes along... like this year I went cruising and suddenly put "A Night At The Opera" on, which I never really had appreciated as an album before. I loved it! The only weak track was "Sweet Lady", the rest is so unique and charming, it just works. "The Prophet's Song" is a masterpiece, so is "Love Of My Life".
A TV documentary got me into them, back in 1994. My brother copied me their Greatest Hits 1 & 2 on cassette. Later then "Live Killers", which he had on LP! Then I was listening to them non stop - despite the bad sound, "Live Killers" held one magical moment after the other. Unforgettable memories!
My favourite album must be "Sheer Heart Attack", there is something about it. Back then I also loved "The Works" a lot. I always held Queen as an example for a band going shit with the 80s - in the 70s they were proud not to use ANY synthesizer on their albums, then you listen to "Hot Space" and you damn the 80s.
The album is not as bad as its reputation though, and the live versions rock good.
Talking about "I Want It All" - the best version must be from "Queen Rocks". It's the perfect mix between the chorus-heavy single version and the longer guitar solo from the album version.
