It's a damn shame how underrated it was both with critics and Def Leppard fans. I liked the way they were going with Sl@ng and wish they continued with a similar formula from then on, instead of taking a step back with Euphoria. (I've not heard it yet, but aparently it is typical Def Leppard)

However I was impressed with X when I bought it in 2002, as IMO kinda blended slightly the typical Def Leppard sound with the experimentational Sl@ng sound.

Sl@ng also had a much more laid-back sound and the songwriting was the best I'd ever heard from the band instead of just the cheese-metal lyrics as from previous albums.

I hope when they release their next album (which I've heard is due sometime this year or next) that they do a similar album to Sl@ng and perhaps incorporate a more modern rock sound.

Don't skip out on Euphoria, you might be surprised. It's main problem is they borrow directly from past songs....but unlike Adrenalize..it's not a poor Hysteria sequel, they cover their entire history in this case, not one album. They are still fresh. The highlights for me are Day After Day, Paper Sun, and I Am Your Child. Day After Day borrows from Too Late for Love and Mirror Mirror, but it is original enough to stand on it's own and it's lyrics are total modern Leppard (ala Slang.) Paper Sun and I Am Your Child stand alone...they don't borrow from anything. Anyway, take it from a Slang fan that Euphoria is worth picking up. When it comes down to it I like the majority of the album.

I'd probably feel the same way about X as you do if it wasn't for a good chunk of the lyrics and some of the song titles (You're So Beautiful, Let Me Be The One, Girl Like You.) Also, the fact that two songs were completely written by outsiders bothered me. Covers are one thing..but brand new material? We know they haven't run dry creatively..so there really was no excuse and Long Long Way To Go is way overrated.

This I don't. Those are possibly the worst tracks on the album. Guilty, Promises, Demolition Man and Goodbye are miles ahead any of those you mentioned.

It's a matter of opinion..I like all of those mentioned...I give the worst track status to the overblown 21st Century Girl.

I prefer more substance in my songs which is why I list those three over those 4...but collectively they make up the better part of the album.

Yep, it's a matter of opinion. I just don't think that the Leps were ever too good at makin "meaningful" tracks, like Paper Sun or White Lightning. All the nonsense stuff works better, like Demolition Man or Armageddon It. If I want to listen to darker Leppard, I listen to High'n'Dry or Pyromania.

I might buy Euphoria eventually if it is as good an album as people say it is. I'm also thinking of buying the 2 DVD's also, as they have pretty much every sinlge video (aside from the X period) included.
