Both of them are great in their respective spheres.

Trying to compare them is like comparing Pink Floyd to Enigma. Both are brilliant at what they do but completely different.

btw I find it quite ironic how many people here are saying the BeeGees are nothing but a cheesy disco act while we're discussing how annoying it is that people think Bruce is a red neck Nugent wannabe when all they've heard is Born in the USA and Dancing in the Dark...

I voted no because Bruce is terrific, but like Jim says, it's apples and oranges. The Bee Gees were never supposed to be a Springsteen type artist anymore than Springsteen is a disco act. And lyrics aren't the only aspect of music, nor are they the most important aspect for most genres.

I agree with Jim on apples and oranges. The Bee Gees get more flack than they deserve due to their disco-lesser-peers that dragged the whole genre down and the Bee Gees along with it. They deserve credit for actually being good at what they did. Now that I think about it, both the Bee Gees and Def Leppard were top shelf for their respective ruling periods and both suffered unfairly in the aftermath.

And Ferret... randomly grabbing Night Fever to serve up in comparison to Nebraska is like someone using We Got It Going On in the same manner. They are both songs that serve a particular purpose rather than representative of what the band is all about.

OK - to be perfectly fair and honest - I can't stand disco in any of it's permutations. I just plain fcukin hate it. So yes, the Bee Gees get lumped into that category.

However I didn't hate the original (mid to late 60s) Bee Gees at all.

The trick here for solving your anti disco stance is to get a strobe light and take groovy drugs.

I actually took groovy drugs at the time and I HATED disco when it first debuted. Time has not softened my stance one whit. I was always a rock and roll person with a bit of pop thrown in.
