Default Kill Bill

I'm going to see it tomorow, so I'll be sure to post back with what I think of it.

It looks really good, and is only actually part 1 of 2 (number 2 gets released in february). The only bad thing seems to be that thanks to the damn BBFC, it has had to have parts put into black and white (probably due to blood content or something). When will they learn it's only a movie?

The news shows worse things than films.

Went to see it this afternoon, and I have to say I think it was way over-rated. It's only about 100 minutes, and I know it's a 2 part, but it's still a bit short.

The first 45 minutes where a bit slow, and whereas there where some exciting bits in it then, they where a bit boring. The last few scenes where fantastic though, with Uma Thurman taking on dozens of guys in a very gory swordfight, which is what makes the movie interesting for me.

The story is very haphazard and I think it was edited badly, but as I've never seen any of Tarantinos previous movies I don't know if it's just his style or something. It seemed to be in odd chapters, with many time jumps, where you would suddenly get to the end of a scene to be confronted with a title "4 years earlier" or "6 months later", and this happens quite a few times.

I'm not saying it's a bad movie, as it warrants me going to see the second part in february, but it's probably something I wouldn't rush out to buy on DVD.

The fights where very well choreographed, but sometimes the stunts and wirework where a little too unrealistic to be believable, and some of the gore was a little too comedic for such a brutal movie. The story apparently ties in with some other characters from other japanese stories, so it would probably benefit you to read/watch such stories if possible before you see this, as I should have.

Parts on the UK release are in b&w, due to the stupid BBFC (you can find an old post of mine about what I think of them), whereas the japanese release is in full colour.

I'd say it was worth waiting until part 2 is released and watching both at once, because at least then it might make some sense to you.

(And just for anyone who wonders why it's in 2 parts, they wanted to release a part this year and one next year so that each movie is seen as a seperate movie, and can be entered for the 2003 and 2004 awards. They chose to do this because The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions are both released this year, and are only counted as 1 movie, so will only get one set of movie nominations for the awards.)

I thought it was an exceptional movie. I'm a big fan of Tarantino (yes Neo, all his other films follow the same format, so if you didn't like this one, you won't like the others). I was curious though as to why the final fight was mainly black and white, so thanks for clearing that up (I hope the DVD release contains the colored fight). Actually, I think it may be the best film of the year (it's in the running with LXG and The Itallian Job...yes, I know, no Matrix...I was rather disappointed with Reloaded). I'll let you know what my pick for the best movie of 2003 is when the year is over, but this one is definately a strong contender. I can't wait for the second one.

The Japanese release was in full colour, but I don't know about the DVD releases. You're probably better waiting until the boxset comes out anyway, because it will undoubtedly be a better package and most probably work out cheaper than buying both seperate.

Yep, that was the plan. I'll buy the boxset whenever it comes out (not sure if my mom's going to think to highly of the film, but my dad liked it so he can vouch for it).

I saw it at thursday with a mate. Watching it alone could have been boring but that way it was really funny. I can't remember any scenes in b/w. I guess we were just lucky here. I'm really looking forward for part II. I don't think this movie is really great but it's really cool to watch it with friends.
