Default Expectations for Aftermath of the lowdown?

In the UK i would say maybe a top 40 album position, with the lead single getting top 75, if he does the right promotion x factor, jonathon ross, this morning, alan carr, then he might have a chance of every road cracking the top 40.

I really hope for more, but he isnt a big enough name with the people downloading songs, if bon jvi the band are struggling in the UK i cant see the guitarist setting the world alight......really hope im wrong though!

What are your predictions for the album and lead single?

Cheers
Gunner

X Factor and the like are ideas way above his station.

Nipping into the top 40 would be a success. There's no lead single as such as Every Road was a free download

This album is not expected to do anything. Richie explained it on Howard (I'll Power Phrase).

It was recorded as an independent album which gives Richie artistic freedom. Small theater tour. He knows it won't sell well. They gave the first single away for free.

Similar to an independent movie, this album is not expected to be the big block buster hit.

So don’t be too disappointed!

Also, the idea of indie labels on this board are... wild. "Is it normal that indie labels have such shitty packaging?". No. It's not. I've got albums that were released on indie labels that have spectacular packaging, better than any BJ album. But if the album fails to sell a lot of copies, it will be because it was on an indie, not because it was an uneven effort. Lesson learned: No lesson to be learned here.

Yeah, somehow many people on here seem to think that an indie label means someone sitting in the attic printing artwork on some deskjet printer, then gluing it all together while burning the audio on a CDR.

Indie does not equal artistic freedom either, there's bands who sell millions of record that have as much artistic freedom as they want to. It's only once you start talking about a record company willing to promote your record that they'll have some influence in the deal because they might be willing to put it on sale, that doesn't mean they're willing to promote a record they don't believe in.

Richie can come up with his "I'm doing it on an indie label because I want to" story all he wants to, but I'm not buying it. It's a nice story and I'm sure plenty of people will fall for it but it's not how it works at all. And I'm sure Howard Stern knows this too, he's way too smart for that kind of bullsh1t but judging from that interview he had zero interest in digging into any of Richie's stories.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

To be honest I couldn't really give a **** about commercial sales. It's not like Richie's short of a few bob. It's all about the music for me. Jon wrote DA without intending to be purely commercial and look how good that is. I don't think AMOTL is in the same league as DA mind but at least some of the songs have passion and a true meaning unlike the recent cock 'n' balls shit Bon Jovi have been serving up.

With JBJ and Richie, the "artistic freedom" bit is a bit laughable, because they always aim to please and have said as much. They're used to millions in the sales department, they WOULD feel like they put out inferior product if it didn't sell for shit. Thus Richie's idea of "artistic freedom" still results in stuff like Suggar Daddy.

Also, as much as I think they hit the wall, hard, repeatedly - look at Metallica or Linkin Park. These guys are on major labels, are in huge bands, and still they put out stuff that, by all intents and purposes, is a ****ing hard sell (and like I said, usually not good for it, but still).

On the other hand, look at a guy like Tommy Lee - stuck with Motley Crue, doing tons of side projects, pretty much hating the singer of that band, and all of that on the band's own label (or has that changed with the Live Nation deal?).

As for the album package - I guess Richie is not exactly close to the DIY culture or has much of an interest in dealing with these things. I doubt the label would have rejected his wishes for a different packaging if he had negotiated as such - it's not like printing lyrics on top of photos costs much money. But there were no lyrics in the Crush booklet, either. And there were none in AC/DC booklets all these years as well. It depends on whether the band thinks it's a priority or not.
