Jesus, some people are being way too anal about Jon's "big personality change" in the past 6-7 years. Yeah he's a lot more confident in his direction, but who cares. People grow up and mature. He's fifty now not in his twenties. Does anyone think he's going to be a coy, quirky, happy go lucky rocker in spandex still in his 50's? He's maturing gracefully - unlike Steven Tyler. He knows he ain't going to be doing this till he dies so he naturally he wants some different focus for when he isn't going to be doing it anymore. Paul McCartney is exactly the same but he doesn't get lambasted.

Agreed other than the last statement there. Hell - Paul McCartney gets shit thrown at every single ****in' day. Way more than Jon Bon Bon over here ever will.

The problem with Jon is, that's what I think, he changed a tad bit too much compared to other 80s hard rock singers. I mean, let's see...look at Brett Michaels, Joe Elliott, David Lee Roth...even people who were around longer and who Jon has worked with like Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent. Not to mention the "real" guys like Dickinson or James Hetfield. Even ****in' Bono is still the same douche. Jon had to go through some odd transformation, become "important", "relevant" etc etc. His own choice. Yes - I prefer that to whatever happened to Vince or Axl or Sebastian Bach. Yet, everyone has their right to dislike it from a personal perspective. Which I do. I wish he was a little somewhere between Nikki Sixx and Richie Sambora. That'd be the perfect middle ground. Business minded with a big ego, yet joyful and happy and human.

Jon is wearing two hats right now....

Politician by day, Rockstar at night.

I get people mature but Jon is taking himself way too serious lately. I'm a huge Jon supporter but i have to agree with the people here.

Richie has grown up too but still comes off as a cool guy

Someone brought up the perfect example during the WWWB Documentary. He's telling the band to have fun but be men. No goofy faces for the camera..... I don't know how Tico resisted from bitch slapping him. Ok they are filing a DVD but I'd rather see a rock band being a rock band then having them on auto-pilot.

I don't think people want to intentionally bash Jon but when you watch a video like AAA, you reflect back to the good times and it reminds you as to why you love this band.

I enjoy that everyone in here is talking about how great AAA is because the band is looser and whatnot, yet crucifying Jon for a comment in WWWB that is blatantly a sarcastic joke.

AAA aside, I don't think Jon was joking when he told them not to goof around for the cameras at MSG. He blatantly meant it.

My issue is that for the Live from London release, they were clearly not bothered the cameras were there from a 'shit, we better not f*ck up," viewpoint and the performance is the best they ever captured and released on film. MSG is still strewn with balls-ups and yet this is probably because they were wound too tightly and not as relaxed as they were in the mid 90s.

Jon won't let the guys piss around on stage any more. Perhaps they don't want to either (who knows?) but they just seem so rigid compared to years gone by. Age plays it's part but not as much as everyone seems to want to believe.

First of all that was no joke! And second, I see maturity in Richie, Dave, Tico but they still have the same personalities ! Jon is a different guy! Not just in WWWB but in everything! Jon putting on a suit and sitting with Clinton and Obama is not the same guy in AAA. However, I've seen Richie do fundraisers and he's the same guy ..... and that's not necessarily a bad thing, he's just different! Which he probably does purposely.

You can honestly see the Richie of the late 80s/Strangers era making a fashion line and dance music? He's gone so Hollywood since then, it's not fair to go after Jon and make it seem like Richie is the same ol' soulful goofball.

You nailed it, I've been saying the same for a while too.

I think Jon put the emphasis on never making mistakes rather than letting the band flow and express themselves recently. He seems mortified when someone slips up.

He needs to take advice from Little Steven who summed it up perfectly "Rock & Roll isn't Rock & Roll without mistakes"

Probably changwed when he started treating what he does as a 9-5 job (ie autopiloting through concerts) and stopped living the 'every kid wants to be a rock and roll star' dream. It must lose its shine eventually though.
