Well part of the problem is that Mutt Lange is now Mr. Shania Twain so I doubt he will be back to rescue Def Lepperd- LOL! And Q-Prime Management has now picked up Shania as a client when she fired Jon Landau so I doubt they will get any more attention. I think Mutt was resonsible for their sound just as he is by and large responsible for Shania's sound- he knows how to produce hits. Bon Jovi on the other hand may have been influenced by the hard rock bands at the time but no way are they a replica of DL- you can clearly hear the Springsteen, Southside, Van Halen, and other influences which are a combination of the Jersey shore scene and the heavy metal of the time. And they have grown with the times- while Jon and Richie write with others they have never needed a producer to create a sound for them the way Mutt Lange created the Def Lepperd sound.

I am a Bj & Dl Fan, but in my opinion Bon Jovi are much better and more talented. I think it's complete bollox that Bon JOvi stole Def Leppards 'sound'. They are not remotely similar. As for the latest releases, X is like every other Def Leppard album ever released, though it didn't seem to rock as much as previous releases, but for some reason got really good reviews. And Bounce is just a continuation of the band evolving, and writing socialy conscious songs (something that Def Leppard have never managed) and yet again it got a slating from the critics. Where's the justice?!

I don't think Mutt Lange is the problem for DL. sur, he produced their big albums, but he ain't harry potter! he made the sound, they wwrote the songs! if you have a bad sound but a good song, it will remain a good song. good sound + bad music is still bad song. Def Leppard had good songs when they were produced by Mutt. but now, they are in their own thing, and this thing ain't for charts.

So, yes, I would agree that Def Lep has a "sound" but it's the same sound over and over again as far as I cared to waste my money on them. If I want to hear Def Lep, why bother with something new? At least I've heard Hysteria enough to understand the lyrics. LOL I feel the same way about Aerosmith. I became a fan them with Pump, worked backward, bought later releases as well and realized there was no point. They've been writing the same songs for 25 years. I've come to the conclusion that if I have one Def Lep CD and one Aerosmith CD, I have them all.

The difference with Bon Jovi is that they are not stuck in a rut. They continue to grow as writers. Thank God, they don't keep rereleasing Bad Name. LOL Maybe another factor is that DL relies on Mutt moreso than themselves whereas Jon is the mastermind of Bon Jovi's success. Mutt may be a genius, but his priority seems be be focuses on his very successful wife Shania Twain.

This is one of the most ignorant posts ever. If you think Pump is THE same as the previous Aerosmith releases, and all POST Hysteria albums are THE same as Hysteria/Pyromania then you are really clueless. Aerosmith albums BEFORE Done With Mirrors are NOTHING like the stuff they churn out during the Geffen Era. And actually Def Leppard, despite inventing their 'Hysteria Sound', they did write an album that is totally different from Hysteria. Have you ever listened to Slang? Granted I think this album is crap with only a few good songs (just like I think These Days is crap with a few good songs), but they did 'grow as writers'. And the new album X is also different from the Hysteria sound. I myself prefer the Hysteria sound and that's why I'm not too fond of X or Slang, but still, if you're talkin about 'not stuck in the rut' or whatever crap it is, I don't think DL or Aerosmith are 'stuck'. You're just too big of a Jon fan to realize that.

I understand that you think Jon cures cancer and it is fine, but come on.

Regarding the original article: I understand it fully and agree wholeheartedly. DL came first and BJ got some inspiration from them. They're both outstanding bands and BJ is currently more successful than them. My theory is: BJ has star power (Jon) and DL has none (they're essentially a band). This may be one of the reasons. Another reason is: BJ is American and DL is not. And BJ does have better marketing and Jon is an excellent businessman, so that doesn't hurt either. But this is just my theory. I still love both bands and will continue to support both.

Grow up. Stick to the discussion at hand. If you disagree with me about Aerosmith and Def Leppard, at least try to do so in a dignified and intelligent manner rather than spewing utter nonsense. You don't have the foggiest clue what I think about Jon. And, exactly how is being a Jon fan related to not being a Def Lep or Aerosmith fan? Hmmmmm? Oh yeah, it's not. It sounds like you can't get over another discussion on the board. Any valid point you tried to make was overidden by your ignorant arguments.

As I said, I gave up on DL and Aerosmith because of the similarities of the albums I do own buy them. I'm certainly not going to waste my money on their other releases just because you or anyone else says they've improved. I have Aerosmith CDs from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. I find their repetition boring. I have DL CDs from High n Dry to Adrenalized and they all sound the same. Listen to what you want to listen to, and I'll listen to what I want to listen to.
