They were on a break when they did the Oscars or when they did that Tokyo new year concert in 1991. That's not a valid reason really. I guess it's all just speculation though. Maybe they simply weren't invited at all. Would have simply thought that Brian May invited them.
Metallica did cover a Queen song for one of their B-Sides.

Stone Cold Crazeeey! And it's a great one, I think it was released with Enter Sandman. Still, there is little Queen influence in the actual music that Metallica plays. Just like, say, there is little Deep Purple in Jovi's music, despite Richie and David citing them as MAJOR influences. Or Queen for that matter.

Clarification, Stone Cold Crazy was shot in black album sessions when Metallica were elected two months earlier to perform the song at the concert tribute. This was so because theirs was represented that song on the show, and recorded a studio version months ago.

Bon Jovi have had an influence in sound and attitude by Queen. You Give Love a Bad Name is proof of that, just to hear the sound pop queen with those guitars as powerful and that great solo reminiscent at times to I Want It All, even the intro is a reference.

I WANT IT ALL

YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME

Remember the old days when Jimmy Page was to the band's shows as a fan.

I am not 100% sure I get what you mean, but the Enter Sandman single came out almost a year before the concert, when Freddie was still alive and was recorded way before that. Unless they were planning some Tribute concert already then (apologies, this is creepy), I doubt you are right.

Enter Sandman was released 29th July 1991, with Stone Cold Crazy as a B-side. Freddie died in November 1991. Concert was in April 1992.

That's a cowboy jacket dude, no Freddie tribute jacket. But I give you that, you have a vivid imagination.

Perhaps you are right, but I think this cover was made as a kind of consciousness tribute recording.

Obviously not the same jacket, but I'm sure he felt like Freddy Mercury with her.

Not quite sure how the clip is proving anything. They did record it as some form of tribute to Elektra records for some kind of Anniversary compilation. Had nothing to do with a Freddie tribute.

Edit: It was a record called 'Rubaiyat' - a double CD celebrating 40 years of Elektra records. Was released in Sept/Oct 1990 and had nothing to do with Freddie directly.

And you don't think it had more to do with putting the jacket on for Wanted as it's a song about cowboys riding on steel horses than Freddie Mercury?

Anyway, this is going off-topic. I guess there isn't a definite answer to this provided by the band. Maybe a good idea to ask them in future interviews?

I am ashamed of this fact to ignore.

Going to see the video of Jimmy Page. Bon Jovi were a band admired by some important music artists.
