That's weird. I heard that story backwards before, how Jon wanted the ballad version to be the single yet Desmond opted to give the song its current Rockier style, and Jon saying how it could have been #1 had it been kept the way it was. Weird....

AFAIR, producer Bruce Fairbairn changed the arrangement?

I totally disagree with this statement

How so? The first two singles were even released in the same order and in the same spot tracklisting wise!

The "woman broke my heart"-one was the first single and #2, the "hold on baby, we'll make it"-one was the second single and #3 (and both were co-written by Desmond Child). You had the tailor made for fist pumping in arenas-opener, the cowboy song, the summer anthem (Wild In The Streets & 99 In The Shade) and the "I still love you girl"-ballad, and the uptempo track with lots of open string action (Homebound Train & Raise Your Hands). That's more than half of Slippery.

It was the same formula. No shame in it.

I still don't agree.

You are basically describing a standard Bon Jovi sound and formula that goes with every album.... Plus take into consideration the times (80's) so yes, there are some obvious similarities.

But.... If you take ALL the songs from each album, especially the demos, and compare them, they are not the same. I don't see or hear a sequel to Slippery in New Jersey.

I see. I guess no one will ever know the truth. Yet I find this kind of speculation very interesting. I´ve read stories regarding the writing of Bad Name, for example. According to who´s speaking, the story differs a lot.
