Because Jon's voice can no longer hit the high notes. Unfortunately, it's that simple. You would be EXTREMELY lucky to hear that performed live. Even the TLFR version is pretty rare.

I'm sure this has been discussed millions of times.

I just think Jon doesn't have the voice for this song anymore.

It's difficult to sing. The verses just build and build to the high chorus, with long notes. They take out the second bit of the chorus when they do play it, so you won't ever hear the original Crossroards version live again.

They played it (the altered version) at Milton Keynes 06, sounded pretty good.

That parts edited out in the single edit aswell.
But anyway, I think he could do it with more dedication, it's just a question on if he is actually willing to try. I don't think so, and the TLFR version really doesn't do it for me, although it is nice, But the original is one of the best ballads of all time, it's really hard to beat.

Man I wish Jon had a higher range right now so that we'd get it more regularly.

Yeah, like Javier said, they're playing the single edit live (of course with the extended solo and the added last chorus). And that is what they've been doing since they started performing the song, so there's nothing new there. And he goes for "the second bit of the chorus" later on in the song.

I was going to make a thread about that, jon can hit the notes on that surely, and even if it is of the TLFR album, i'm sure people will just be happy to hear Always

No, he can't hit those notes anymore. And there's no need to make a thread about it, there's a perfectly good one here:

I would kill to hear the original again, but really can't be bothered about the TLFR-version.
