Maybe it is about a girl. It's a good possibility. I simply think the interpretation above makes sense too.
If YOU is a girl then why would he suddenly talk about a band in the second verse? Anyone got any ideas?

Actually last two sentences made me think in a different (band) direction.
In all honesty, I would rather this song be about a girl because if it is about the band then it sounds too depressing.
