> went through the whole can't get a job after uni thing

Lemme just kill the > thing for a moment

It feels awful I know, it makes you angry and upset and you don;t get why they don't want you. Well I also recruit now too, and I've turned away grads with no experience. It's because at the end of the dy=ay you have to think about your organisation as an employer - you have to be ruthless. This means, yeah a degree shows knowledge, dedication and effort. But it doesn't show that you can do the job.

I'd advise getting a job in the field that's more basic (like a sound tech instead of music production for example)and then using that an experience base.

Or get work-oriented qual's, stuff designed to be applicable to work. A heavy portfolio of fit-for-purpose, saleable if relevant and professional quality work always helps too.

<> shall drop the <> briefly too

I can understand an employer being put off by lack of experience, they want what is best for their business of course. I do feel frustrated though. I've sent off plenty applications, only actually heard back from a few, had a few interviews (good practice at least for that) and basically got nowhere, and no feedback either.

I found a listing through an agency t'other day which I need to sort out a bit of a portfolio for - they actually said in the description that they care less for experience and qualifications as they do creativity! The first one I've seen that says that! So I want to make sure I make the best impression I can in applying for that one.

Other than that I've started to broaden my horizons - I'm now looking at basic office work, temp stuff, just to get experience in an office environment. Obviously still hoping moreso to find something in web design or graphic design, but it's been 6 months and I'm obviously getting nowhere, so I need to be less choosy, obviously. I can't live on so little money a week - I can't fathom how so many people do this for long periods of time, and are obviously happy to do it and not make any serious effort to find work.

If I don't find something in the next few weeks I'm going to make an appointment to see someone at the jobcentre who can help with starting up a small business. I will have to work on some ideas for that, hopefully work something out if it comes down to it. Even if I do find something in the meantime I will have a crack at starting a bigger website, try to make some extra money.

<> thank's ^ for the information, as hearing about any other experiences makes <> feel that at least <> isn't alone
