Certainly at the begining I think, because really two people should get to know each other well before forming any romantic or physical relationship. This is why many relationships/marriages fail because a lot of them start by immediately dating and they let that get in the way of the most important part of any relationship between 2 people; friendship.

For any two people, be they in a romantic relationship, be they work colleagues, be they parents or siblings, regardless of how they know each other they should establish and maintain a friendship first. If anything else got in the way of a romantic relationship then they could refrain from being lovers and just be friends again rather than having a messy breakup when they cannot bear to see each other again.

Sorry I just realised that I didn't fully answer your question.

I think that once a relationship has been established then it would be normal for physical intimacies to begin and whereas I do believe that a couple with restraint could give that up, as long as their relationship was strong enough.

I believe though that the sexual tension would build up to a point where it would explode and either they would see other people for sex, would give in and have sex together or would get angry with each other and possibly damage or destroy the relationship, however strong the bond between them was.

hellow!! i might take the time to "answer" to what u said above later or maybe tomorrow cause my head is really not good today after a so long, boring and frustrating day... well basically i think that yes friendship is the most important thing in any relationship and any kind of relationship should start like that... but when it becomes love, if it ever does, and its true love, than sex isn't (or should't) be really relevant. obviously if we talk about a "normal" relationship, im all for sex, nothings wrong with it, but i mean when two people that love each other go through hard times or have to be apart, or just phisically can't connect to each other sexually, then if you cannot wait or bear without having sex at all for that person, it isnt really love... at least that's the way i see it

Well as I said I think that a relationship can go on without sex but eventually no matter how in love you where the sexual tension would rise and you'd need some form of release

its the caveman in use that drives us to each other , the instinct to breed man and woman how it should be .however i have had friends who are woman that i never had sex with .infact when i was 18ish i had a friend that i went everywhere with and did everything with yet we never had sex nor felt the need for it

The physical urge is inherent in us all but we have evolved to a point were our minds are more powerful and we can learn to control ourselves, and as such a couple could restrain themselves, if they so wished it.
