The Ultimate Matrix Collection 10 Disc Box Set... The Ultimate Matrix Collection 10 Disc Box Set...

You basically get the 3 films, a bonus disc specifically for each film, The Animatrix (a series of short animations based in the Matrix universe), and then 3 bonus discs covering various aspects of making the trilogy; from the philosophical down to concept art.

Plus the packaging is really nice too

I had each seperate film before, but I sold them to one of my mates for £20, and I got the boxset for £35 so only really spent an extra £15 to get the 4 extra discs and the nice packaging, plus the first film has been digitally restored for the boxset.

The first film was not filmed digitally, so when they went to do the boxset they went back to the original film and did a whole new digital transfer at high quality.

Well it was George Lucas who first really started to use it with Star Wars Episode II, and now a lot more films are shot digitally, just that it is more expensive. It isn't the same sort of digital video as the home video cameras you can get, though some people do use those (Michael Mann uses them, films like Collateral, gives it a more grainy, gritty, real world feel)

It is very high quality, they use advanced Sony camera's, and the camer'as cost quite a lot, and also they need the hard drive space to store it. I know that regular DV footage from home camcorders is 13gb per hour of film, so if you imagine how much higher quality the professional equipment is I'd imagine they need a hell of a lot of hardrive space, probably into the terabytes (1tb = 1,024gb - most home pc's have 80gb hard drives)
