yeah.

As ego tistical as it sounds, 1 of the main reasons I want to go into teaching is because wether the kids actually realise it at the time or not, every single teacher they have is setting them up for life outside school and I think it's a noble thing to do and is giving back to the wider community.

Life's been good to me so I might as well try and do the same for others.

V sound like a plan?

nowhere near as much as they should be and they're far too often blamed for problems with kids but that's just typical of a generation that looks upto football players more than doctors and policemen.

V am I being a little presumptuous here?

I don't know. I don't think it is as much the kids fault as it is the parents. Parents don't want to deal with their kids problems so they blame the teachers and so forth.

On the other hand, I sometimes wonder if some of those teachers could actually make it in the corporate world. I do have high expectations of teachers and very few meet them, but then, teaching does not attract the most ambitious individuals. Of course not all are bad - there are some really good teachers that do it because they LOVE what they are doing - unfortunately they are few and far in between.

I always wanted to become a teacher, but I really cannot afford to

How important is money to you?

Alot less than I thought it was.

The main reason I took up accountancy was because of the money but I realised that I don't need huge amounts of money to keep me happy. As long as I can feed and shlter myself and have some left for a little fun then I'm fine.

V you?

That sounds great in theory and I'd like to say the same thing; but in reality shelter is soooo extremely expensive - at least around here - that you pretty much cannot own your home unless you make a lot of money. Actually, I just talked to my single friend and she abandoned the idea of ever being a homeowner because she just cannot afford it. She works in the same job as I do, hence has massive amount of schooling behind her and is in a career track - thus much better off than the average cashier or secretary. That is just plain wrong.

I would love to move out of this area - move south to a more rural part or to the peninsula and get a little house on the coast - but there are no jobs and the jobs there are don't pay. So, that is out as well. Besides, I don't know if it is good to raise kids in a totally rural area - like Aberdeen - - no wonder Cobain was endlessly depressed :P I too grew up in a little town and it always felt claustrophobic to me.

It is a rat race any which way you look at it

Is it alright to raise kids in a totally rural place?

yeah it's alot nicer and cleaner and safer than the city.

Sayign that, since I know nothing other than growing up in a concrete jungle I still say I'd prefer it here than the country but who knows what I'd think if I'd grew up somewhere up north or down at the borders.

V do you like where you live?

yes I do actually. When I moved here the economy was still really really good and my then still husband took a job with a high tech start-up. We thought, we'd stick it out for the 4 years until all his stock options have vested and then move to California (which is too expensive to just move there unless you are rich). Well, that never panned out - so it is a good thing we both totally love it here and have no plans of moving ever. (Ok, I hope my son will go to Stanford for college - so I can move to California then )

if you could live anywhere where would it be?
