But again, the band was never going to say anything about it. It doesn't make sense for them to say " we have a new song for sale in a few weeks but check out early for free on a station that got it early". They've never promoted a new song when radio plays it first.

Truthfully I don't either. I don't know them well enough to know how accurate they are but 95% of the last dozen times this has happened there has been a specific radio station attached to is. I just don't know why people are going after the band for the lack of promo on something everyone just blindly ran with.

Listen to the story starting at 40:00. Jon tried to nix a hard rock solo on a new song and Shanks fought for it to stay in so it was tweaked and made the cut. He kinda plays the end of the solo.

This is a really really open and interesting interview.

That's a cool story. It says a lot about where Jon's frame of mind is with the rock stuff. Maybe Shanks would like to let Phil rock more after all. I like the way that Phil describes how Shanks fought for him ("If you want Phil on the record and in this band, then this is part of what he does").

That's a cool story. I'm really hoping this album IS going to be something a bit different

That was VERY interesting. It kind of shows you how JBJ just isn't into that type of thing.

With Shanks and Phil X being good friends, I imagine that he's said in the past how he would love a chance to shine and maybe this was his opportunity.

If I had to be negative, I'd have loved to have heard how it was originally intended to sound and not layered and made cleaner as Phil X said to keep Jon happy.

Yeah agree. I've been saying for years it's not Shanks killing the band, he's doing what he's told. If Shanks is producing solos and Jon isn't there for those sessions, he's just doing what he wants and if Jon likes it it he likes it if not he'll change it.

I'd love to know the circumstances to why Phil played on What Do You Got?

Phil X hits the nail on the head and to his credit so does Shanks – you don’t hire Metal guitarist Phil X and ask for weak as piss solos. You hire Phil X you get Phil X.

If you want to tell a guitarist what to do then hire an unknown and tell him what you want.

Good to hear Phil and Shanks tell Jon it needed to stay.
