Thanks for re-posting that interview. Take a good listen at 6:43, there you have it spelled out clearly and in the open by the guy itself:

Interviewer: "And was it, there was never a plan where you said maybe let's go for this a solo career, or you've always wanted to be wtih a band and then ..."

JBJ: "I defined the word band you know clearly very from the get-go"

So, it was band, but it was his band, i.e. Jon and the guys, from the very beginning. At least that's what he was saying at the time.

Yes. But despite being his band, the talent of each of those musicians does not belong to him, I mean, Tico's talent is from Tico, not Jon, Richie's talent is from Richie, and the latter has left a mark indelible in the band, in the songs, in the live shows.

To be superficial with the facts saying that it is Jon's band and therefore the others don't matter ... it's ridiculous. All that roll of being replaceable is nonsense. It's like saying that David Lee Roth or Cliff Burton were replaced... so they don't matter.


Jon has transformed a real band into his own The E Street Band, that's bullshit, and this happened before Richie left, but at least we had him on board.

The problem is, on this board, you are the only person who even mentions that the others don't matter (in defence of the opposite). No-one else denies the dynamics of the band. I mean, everybody knows Jon wanted a band, got a band, but ultimately runs the show. That's a fact that does not diminish the qualities of the others.

I agree completely with your last point, Jon has made the band worse, although it was happening either way. And yes, the cold truth of the matter is they are all replaceable, for better or for worse. Ask Alec and Richie if they were replaceable or not.

That being said, in terms of recorded music of the last 10 years, it is arguable none of them matter apart from Jon. Tico and David are rarely even in the studio so are hardly contributing to what we hear on the records. Richie did contribute and was in the studio, but the songs sucked either way.

What I mean is that Richie was reemployed, but he did matter in this damn band. Although in the last 10 years he had not done much.

Now Bon Jovi uses two guitarists and things are getting worse. Maybe I am angry at Jon's vision, since it is rubbish, he just tries to emulate the sound of a band, but it is not.

Actually, if you ask Richie if he was replaceable, I think he'd probably say something like, "At the end of the day, if you’re going to buy a can of Coke, you want the real thing. Jon just has a different mentality. I know Mick Jagger wouldn’t tour without Keith Richards and call it the Rolling Stones."

It can't both be he was ostracized from the partnership AND he was integral to the process and he never had any time off. 2012 onwards I get it and you're probably not wrong but ten years from him leaving is a stretch.

I mean Although in the last 10 years he had not done much that worth it.

Basically, I want to say that despite having a decline (of quality) in recent years, he was someone important and that he deserved to have him on the ship because without him, Bon Jovi suffers.
