He would have to strip the whole system down to the bolts if wanted to and I'm not sure he does.

It'd be a different story if he put it out and it was a massive hit and started a new chapter but if they can't sell material sounding like themselves, a complete 180 might be too much.
To do that, I would need an intermediate album, halfway with what you propose, and then take the gradual leap in the next one. I think that stripped album could have happened after Lost Highway, but now.... is more difficult. Although we have not heard the new album. We know how Unbroken sounds, and Lower The Flag seems to be on the same line. Who knows, maybe this is the intermediate album.

Interesting point, yeah. I feel like for as much as Lost Highway gained some fans, they also lost a ton. Staying in that direction would have been a disaster. I think you're right it would need to be a gradual change-over. At Jon's age though he really does have nothing left to prove but keeps trying to prove it for some reason.

Really enjoyed this interview and to see Jon engaged. I really wish he could overcome that fear of the fair weather fan reaction in regard to live shows and just play what he wants. And before anyone says, “why play the voluminous back catalog if you can’t sing it”. I’ve been to well over 125 shows and even if he can’t sing an older song, right or wrong, I’d rather have the attempt vs staying with a stagnant set list that as it is he struggles with. Now he may still pick the songs I don’t want but heck it would bring back and element of surprise when seeing multiple shows.

Yup. Am I longing to hear Complicated? You Had Me From Hello? Save The World? Not really but if I'm at a show and 95 percent of it I've heard at most shows for the last 18 years then I'm all for that change. They owe something to the fans that see multiple tours in a row instead of the same damn set. It's selfish but true.

I take it back, unless they lower the key that last long note would kill him.

But the point remains. Those prices PLUS those setlists PLUS the state of his voice = Doesn't make sense. Give me two of the three and I'd be at my first show since probably 2013?

its also a real shame that ozzy osbournes new single has more passion in it than jons... and thats saying something
Ozzy allied with Elton John and the song has a damn guitar solo with Slash. however we get Jon allied with Prince Harry and zero guitar solos in the singles.

Oh wow! Forgot you didn’t see a show on THINFS tour. I’m goin to both MSG shows and paid the crazy ticket price due mostly to lack of patience and delirium from working non stop and it’s blocks from my office now.

My argument to Jon is you can play the deep cuts and the hits. Remove WLOL, WWBTF, LH, WGIG, RYH (etc) and replace them with other deep cuts, because those songs aren't hits. There is space for deep cuts but Jon insists on doing the same ones.
