I really don't think they were as badly received as you are making out. Pretty much every song released by the band gets slated here by some people. A lot of people really saw those songs as the right direction too, myself included. I know a few Bon Jovi fans outisde of this board and they agreed too. And the Backstage fans just think everything is amazing anyways don't they? I really don't think Jon makes decisions on what to do based on any comments made here....

If Jon wanted too he could have done a solo album in this vein but he clearly doesn't. Jon was completely without a label for a while after Burning Bridges, so had no label telling him what to do. He could easily have done a solo album in the Stand Up vein then, but chose not to, Instead he went back to Universal and tried to chase that hit single again. he may have had to go to a smaller label, meaning that illustrious hit would be even futher out of reach, but I think he would have a lot more respect going down this route, instead of churning out the same old Bon Jovi formula again and again. At the end of the day a JBJ solo album and tour like that is not going to make the same money for him that a Bon Jovi album and a big arena tour would, and I guess that's what matters most these days.

If Bon Jovi albums aren't selling (lets not include the farcical buy a ticket get the album sales) then solo albums definitely wont sell.

You have good lyrics in 'Unbroken' but it's too slow and goes nowhere yet has some good guitar work at the start and then you have 'Limitless' which has the same Bon Jovi sound since 2000 with lyrics about scrubbing your face and brushing your teeth and no guitar (or very low in the mix)

A couple of changes and they could still produce some good stuff. It's just not taking that extra step anymore to make the average songs good and the good songs great.

I liked Not Running Anymore but didn't like Old Habits Die Hard. I actually think NRA was similar to DA. Even the video was something like the DA videos....

I still think we will have 2/3 songs that we love on 2020 but we've heard 1/5 of the album and I don't like any so far.

Agree. If we get 2 or 3 solid songs I think most of us would take that now if offered, but like you I dont like what Ive heard so far although Limitless would be more acceptable with a guitar solo.

What gripes me the most is knowing these songs could come out better.

Unbroken is just way too slow and I think Jon could sound much better in a studio. The Invictus Games version is the correct speed.

Limitless is It's My Life part 15 formula wise. The chorus grew on me. It reminds me of OWN which really doesn't have a great chorus either (own has better lyrics). Terrible bridge... Jon doesn't sound bad. It's Shank's production style that kills it for me. There is zero edge to it. The instruments are blended. It's a good filler track.

I have a feeling that Do What You Can is going to be Scars On This Guitar part 2.

But at the end of the day, the album was recorded in 11 days (according to Phil's recent interview) so that's what you get.

You're right. It would help if I actually listed to it... I saw some footage when they were making it and it seemed faster

I haven't heard the interview yet, did he say the album was recorded for 11 days or he spent 11 days with the band in the studio?
