It's not really live. It's just them filming the music video so a full take of the band miming. Really odd wording that's misleading.

We know if Jon has recorded a studio version of Do What You Can?

Nothing Official but my guess is Yes because he's adding it to the album...

He'll send the vocals to Shanks and have him do all the instruments.

If it's not out until October, and assuming there's no plans to release it ahead of time which I hope isn't the case, I'm hoping they wait until the lockdowns are over to record it. Shanks doesn't play drums on the tracks so at the very least I hope that's enough of a reason to hold off.

I honestly don't think they'd shy away from using a drum computer. There have been quite a few tracks over the years where the drumming input was so little that you hardly tell whether it was Tico or pre-programmed.

It's funny, Shanks has taken shots at producers who use fake drums and prides himself on the drums being real on his productions. Has there ever been any confirmation drum tracks have made the final mixes? The demos we've heard are rife with them (the Bounce demos, Burn with me etc) but on the proper albums it's always felt like samples have augmented the sound but there's still a drummer there. Am I alone in this one? It sounds processed as shit but I don't really believe it's pre-programmed to that point.

Like you say it's processed as shit, so it's really hard to tell what's real and what's not, but my gut tell me Tico goes in and bashes all the tracks out in a day. It'd be insane not to use him.

Yeah. The breakdown of how WAN was recorded really opened my eyes to Shanks's process. It's Tico with a whole lot of fake kicks and snares on top of it to augment it. Some songs are the full band laying down the bed tracks, some aren't, but I've never for a second thought it was a computer playing the parts. Even songs that people have said it's a machine (The 2011 Greatest Hits songs) I hear Tico but a lot of stuff is stacked on top to give it that sound.

All great points... It was referred to as a "bonus track" so they might even make it download only like they did with "Walls" and "When We Were Us"

But back on topic: I do remember Jon saying at one point (I hope I get this right) I can't wait for you all to hear this with the band. My interpretation was, a final studio track - Same scenario as Reunion. We had that terrible acoustic version for a year plus before we got the not as terrible studio version.

I'd really love to hear what they would sound like in the studio now if they recorded like they used to. I don't see the need for all the studio trickery. Take Jon's vocals out of the equation (obviously they need to do the work in the studio there) and they are still a great band! I miss Tico sounding like Tico and Dave could be any generic keyboard player now. And the crappy U2/Killers guitar sound is done to death. I'm so tired of the over-produced sound that they are constantly putting out now.
