I think Oct 31st will be the date otherwise they’ll have to change the name if delayed much more.

New releases don’t tend to happen in December as labels try and push Xmas compilations and best selling albums of the year for Xmas sales to push up qtr 4 sales.

Agreed. If not October I see it pushed to first quarter of next year.

Nobody knows how exactly Pandemics is going to behave, but as of now it is highly likely considered to decrease in borealis summer and that a new wave would hit again in fall with less power if we are lucky, but at least better prepared and cautious.

That is what think who knows about all of this, although things are never the way they´re forecast...

But plans have to be made, and not put off "sine dei", so I highly guess that companies are thinking seriously of a just-after-the-summer-release, be it september or october.

Putting it off to november could take all those releases that were supposed to be aired today, to be at this very situation then.

So I´m sure they will try to capitalize on the release at the best date seen from today.

And being called 2020, they´re almost compelled to release it this year.

The modern day Jon wants to make music that is "relevant" and is speaking to "what's happening in the world today".

I don't think he succeeds in that very often to begin with, but at least I can appreciate the thought behind it. Right now, it's destined to fail in that regard because the album is probably about Trump's America and the hope of the upcoming presidential election - things that are very irrelevant right now. 3 months ago feels like 3 years ago and all that everyone can think of right now is COVID-19 and how people's lives are affected by it. It's a problem when you brand the album as "2020" and it completely does not reflect what the people are going through in the year 2020.

I think he's better off either shelving the project or re-working some of the songs and adding new ones (ones he'd be writing right now), if relevance, relatability and reflection of the world around us is what he's aiming for.

I am afraid that we'll probably not get to hear some of the more interesting songs then. But who knows. I'd assume that if JBJ reworks the record, stuff like Lower The Flag will get cut due to being "too dark". Ideally, here's how it would work: Write 15 new songs that reflect the current mindset, pick the best 12 of them all, and have the remainder of the original album be its own thing on a deluxe edition second disc.

This will not happen. BJ the band did not get a double album released at the height of their commercial appeal.

So, deluxe edition of the lost tracks in 20 years, celebrating the classic 2020 record and finally revealing those long clamoured classics to be? Let's not kid ourselves - it is highly unlikely that 2020 is gonna reach THAT status. Did the Slippery deluxe edition contain stuff like Game Of The Heart? I think even that one didn't.

So what else is there. Digital only / download only bonus tracks? I'd be all for it, but if we're talking about high tech solutions, why not make the tracks you know are not gonna make the cut available for streaming right now? Well, that way the tracks that resonate the least with the current situation would be available beforehand. Not sure if they're gonna go for that.

Rename the album? Yeah, that's an option, but wouldn't give us tracks more in line with what's occupying people's heads right now, nor would it give us the potentially lost tracks.

I'm also curious if any new songs are all gonna be in the vein of Do What You Can, i.e. very topical, or if the lesson's gonna be to go for a more universal theme. Undivided was a great song, well received, but hardly ever played on subsequent tours. Not sure how comfortable the band is with being topical in the long run.

I have a feeling it will go the same route as Happy Now. Inspired by Obama but the word "Election" isn't said. It all depends on how specific he gets with the subject matter. Unbroken could have easily been written alluding to PTSD in the military but instead was a direct hammer on the nail. If we have more songs written like that, yeah it's going to sound dated.

But if it's taken from a middle of the road perspective, it will still be problems happening. Immigration will still be an issue in October of 2020 etc. He's not stupid enough to say Trump on the albums.

Ngl I had no clue Happy Now was about Obama. I always interpreted it in more of a mental health state with someone escaping some sort of bad relationship. Shows decent writing in my opinion. Open to interpretation

For sure, exactly what I'm saying. It's relevant but not....."relevant" ya know? If he's not mentioning people, places and things and the issue being talked about is still happening, meh Im sure it will be fine.

I wouldn't say the hope of the upcoming election is irrelevant right now.

If anything, the Covid outbreak in the US and how terribly it's been handled underscores just how important it is.
