Pros and Cons...Taking the situation into consideration.

Cons:
I've noticed this on multiple songs now that Jon sounds like he has too much saliva in his mouth. Almost like a slurping sound. If I was to do a Daffy Duck impersonation, that's what I would sound like. He need to be careful.

The whole playback with live vocals was not mixed well. I think he just sang over himself vs. singing to a vocal-less track. Either way, it just didn't come off great

Pros:
Jon could still sound like Jon with a little studio help. They have been using that vocal note corrector and his live voice is much more enjoyable.

I think the band looked great are were having fun. They actually did a great job. I'm sure something like that would be an absolute chore to put together live. Bon Jovi is a seven piece band now so making sure everyone has the right setup, with the right instruments, with the right sound would have been very daunting for a three minute performance.

Jon did a decent job keeping up with the song. Just the way we all questioned We Don't Run, Jon could pull this one off in an arena setting.

Shanks fits the band so much better clean shaven.

Edit: the one on Bon Jovi YouTube sounds better than what was on TV last night.

It's daunting but that's what professionals jobs are for. Of the 7 members, Jon and Everett aren't playing an instrument, Dave and Hugh's are a direct-in situation....I'm not saying it's EASY but this was a really phoned-in way to promote the song. With it not being live-to-air there's certainly time there to do something authentic sounding. Just my opinion.

Are these guys even equipt to pull it off? Come on let's face it, playback is nothing new. This is just another TOTP performance. I just listened to the exact same thing yesterday of Keep The Faith. Nobody cared back then and nobody will care tomorrow.

Apart from the multitude of weirdos on Youtube who love to scream playback at the first opportunity on a video of an old tv show as if its new news!

Anyone comparing this to TOTP and TV performances is off the mark, that's not what I'm saying, COMPLETELY Different situation.

Like this for example:
It's very possible for bands to play live considering Shanks, Phil, David and Jon have home studios. If I'm alone in this opinion that's totally fine, just the attempt could have been there for a live version of the song even if they mimed that.

Ofcourse it's possible, anyone with a computer and an amp can do home-recording. The thing is that it'd require rehearsing and going over this several times as opposed to doing it the easy way and just miming it. It's another wasted opportunity by the Bon Jovi PR machine, really.

Salaam Aleikum,

Those Sammy vids have been amazing. I guess that's the difference of someone that is still doing it for the love of music, and someone who is just going through the motions, which unfortunatley is what Jon has been doing for years now...

i suppose the fact that Sammy still has the pipes to pull it off helps too...

It's posted on both, the official Bon Jovi YouTube page and the official Voice YouTube page. The only main difference is, the cup handover to Carson is not on the official Bon Jovi one.

Off course the Bon Jovi page comments are biased but The Voice comments are equally positive so most general people done care enough to notice.

The Voice is a nationally televised show so the expectations are a little different than a Sammy Hagar jam session. I'm not saying that I 100% agree with the playback but I do get it... and I don't think anyone should get knocked for it.

Bon Jovi is a 7 piece band, two of the members had the actual Corona Virus, it's a nationally televised event. If they had to pull it off live, I'm sure they could have but it really wasn't necessary. It was more about the visuals.

For all my know, they could have tried it but the mix came out awful. I'm sure Shanks could have mustered up something if they really wanted a live sound but again, wasn't necessary for a televised event.

I'd really like to think they at least try to do a live song. Lady Antebellum at least pulled off a pre-recorded live track to sing to so the idea that it HAS to be the studio version is out the window.

Sammy's Jam session aside, they have the option to do something that will at least be memorable if it's the only performance of the song. It being a nationally televised event has zero to do with it when it's not live and the time can be put into a live performance. It's not rocket science for a band to play a song and record the tracks separately and have something, ya know?

Two members having Corona...it sucks but Everett isn't a make-or-break member for something like this. To think a live performance is scrapped because the song won't have finger snaps, no way. But we're falling into agree to disagree territory here.
