Well I was really not excited about this album at all during promotion.

Limitless ruined it for me.

American reckoning was worse

Do what you can was okay..

The rest of the album....

Holy hell...

Jon where the **** have you been for the last 10 years

That said, Luv Can is ****ing epic. I like that kind of songs, great job there.
True. I've mentioned it in another post, Do What You Can and American Reckoning makes the album more conceptual, and that's okay. But I also think it could have been a 12 song album as usual. So I do not know.

I think it would make more sense if they had 14 songs and 2 more rockers. Two more slower songs... I don't know.

Also, listening to Luv Can again, I wish it ended in a solo + fade out.

Default 2020: The New Album

I think that many of the songs were re-recorded, taking advantage of the delayed release and the rest of Jon’s voice.

It was almost painful to listen Jon at Unbroken, staining what could have been a great song, just because of how he pronounces words, but the latter songs are quite enjoyable, and I even can listen some glimpses of 90s Jon in there.

Listening the bonus tracks makes me suspect this more, because even if the songs are great, Jon’s voice and pronunciation feel a bit rougher, hence these are the ones from the first recording sessions.

What do you think?

Shine would be suitable for a prom after finishing the High School

I agree, I have always said that to balance an album there must be at least 7 rock songs. Always assuming they are decent and solid, not weak tracks.

Hmm, on first listen I don't like the chorus of Luv Can, don't know why. Maybe it's a grower? Loved Shine on first listen, though!

I still think that Tico doesnt play on Do What You Can CD version and reading on the credits that Shanks was "drum programming" makes me believe more in this theory.
Drums are different than the version with Jennifer Nettles
You can hear it on the kick drum
Its not the same on the album version than the Nettles and the live versions.
And other different part is the crescendo part, its different on both versions, being again the same the Nettles a live versions.
I think that the do what you can album version is a drum machine.

About Luv Can, Jon sings so passionately here, add guitar solo and the song grows at the end with a great backing chorus that gives me goosebumps. For me it is a winner. Powerful song.
