Good performance. At least Jon left the mic a little bit.
And unfortunately Phil's guitar is too low in the mix...
I really enjoyed it. Jon seems a lot more comfortable recently.

Just a shame about Phil in the mix as you say.

The mix is watered down shit. Remember when they did Who Says on Ellen in 2006? It was slower paced, distortion was lowered. Wonder if they did that again to fit the audience? Would have loved more grit to match the guitar sound on the album.

After almost a week of listening I still like it a lot.I like production here more than THINFS. I really dont have expectations from the band to make some great album like TD or last really good one HAND. After all these years they cant do that, like every other old band they recycle themselves.New album is good for me,from 8 new songs I listen 6 of them every day. If I find 3 or 4 songs that I like then it is good album for me. Beautiful drug,Blood on the water,Brothers in arms, Let it rain and 2 bonus tracks -on repeat evey day.

My two cents about Shine.. I know we like to speculate here a lot but couldn't it just be another song with the same name? Shine - that's one word, no uncommon and Jon is known to revisit song titles. I get the resemblance to WAN ballads but I think such song would end up Burning Bridges. When crap like We All Fall Down made it. And it isn't that special to be saved not the next album but the one after and shifted to be a bonus track.
Is the source from 2013 a reliable one? And I'm too lazy to check if the combination of songwriters was common at that time.

So this is a song about having a dream and chasing it, till you find the Bright Lights." - Aldo Nova.

Others would've argued the same thing about Diamond Ring. If it's a song important to Jon and he didn't see it fitting on WAN and didn't wanna waste it on BB, it's very well possible that it was used now. The 2013 source is what the management or whatever officially had registered in a song data base, so this song was around back then.
Of course, Jon likes to reuse some titles like his knack for Open All Night, but too much here feels like it came from some way back.

It's not so much a source so much as a photo of them in the studio with that as a song list. Ehhh I get what you mean but because you and I call We all fall down crap, I doubt Jon and John do, ya know?

It sounds like it got bumped from this album due to being a boy/girl song more than it being a BAD song. Depending on the time of day I go back and forth with it's origins. The combo of Jon/Shanks/Falcon isn't a very common one for 2013 though no, so for it to be from that era it's possible it was started with Jon and Billy and finished with Shanks for this album?

I think Shine has been reworked for years on every album session from WAN, going through BB, THINFS and ending in 2020. Sort of like Diamond Ring, starting on NJ album, going through re-recordings on KTF, and finally reworked on acoustic for These Days.

He also goes over it in the American Songwriter podcast. The filmed album was done the day after the I Heart Performances and his one regret was he was so into learning all the songs live that he wished he had more time to perfect them so he can move around and interact and with no audience that made it hard.

Normally I'd say he's full of it but he also revealed he knew everyone hated Because We Can so there's something there!
