Just curious what he said about this not being his best performance? As for others wanting JBJ the perfectionist, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect given his current vocal limitations.

At the very moment of performing you got a feeling if it's right or not. That's what he did for decades. And that's what I was trying to say with the Yokohama example. Right after they played certain songs Jon knew it wasn't good in his opinion. So they played it again.
And that's what they could have done with this performance, too. Instead he tells people afterwards that he knows he could be better.

I don't know if you misunderstood me or I don't understand you.
But I don't get your point concerning "crew costs, quarantine time, rehearsals, production costs for an album that's already out with very little possible ways of promoting it." Because all of it has no influence on doing it right.
I think I got confused when you used Yokohama as an example of "they should just scrap it if they're not happy" which would require a second everything and a wasted day. Sorry, see what you're saying now. I completely agree, if it he didn't have his footing, do it again until you do.

well i enjoyed it, just good to see the band together. Personally I cant sing or play an instrument so i just listen and watch to enjoy it. Is Jon still the performer from yesteryear, well no, cos he is older now and there is plenty of other stuff happening with Covid etc so even if he wanted to prance around the whole studio, it was clear they were all staying apart. He did actually move a bit from the mike rather than hold on tight the full show, a complaint from the start of the last tour. Was it perfect vocals? Again, no but that has been talked to death, he is older, the smoking etc, screaming the words in the old days all catch up eventually so it is what it is for me. I saw him at Wembley last year and it was great, he may not have been perfect singing but he had the crowd fully with him cos of how he was on stage and that is just fine for me.
The Phil X debate still rumbles on cos of Shanks playing. I like Phil. He always looks like he is having a blast which adds to the show cos of his energy and interaction. He is also cool off stage......yet he has his haters as he isnt Richie and doesn't play like him. Well I know that but Richie is Richie, no one will be like him so that isnt going to change. Im more concerned how the producer has suddenly appeared on stage and started playing a lot of lead guitar. And no, Phil was not having as much of a blast in this recording. Still he turns up and hasn't yet walked out of the band and Jon does interact with him a lot more than at the start.
I do like having Everett in there for vocals and percussion, sad Davy wasn't there but he is away doing a great thing for himself which is also very important so no complaints there.
The one man I just still love is Tico. No matter, hammering away those drums, it is no exaggeration that he is the heart of that band.....i loved the editing of him rocking out and then next scene munching on a sandwich I'd want a steak and beer or fine wine after all that effort lol!
I'm glad we got something live from them and the new songs do sound good. I understand the thoughts on Shanks and the guitar work, fine, doesnt mean I do not want Phil playing more as lead guitarist though. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
PS I also think we are seeing a changed Jon with the social media presence. Yes Covid has forced it on to him but I think Jesse helps a lot too, he is definitely interacting more on social media and i smore relaxed about it, maybe that is the change on Jon the perfectionist as well, getting older, more relaxed so just not putting as much into it.

I prefer labeling such events with the real date and the air/release one.
I'm trying to answer my own question here there is an ig video of Phil going through his rig. Question is if the date the video was released is the date it was filmed. Probably not because this one is from August 22 https://www.instagram.com/p/CEM-u9MA64P/ and this one two days later https://www.instagram.com/p/CEQWzZGAFrm/
I hope anyone has more info.

Well....I don't.
Just that it's the same setting where they recorded the Ellen performance of Beautiful Drug. And this one was aired October 08.
I don't know if this already came up: But has somebody else, too, have the feeling that the Ellen performance is taken from this recording?
I compared the end of the first chorus and it's just too similiar than Jon just doing the same kind of moves.

The show was recorded a day after the iHeart performance was, rehearsals were slightly before that in this room and the Ellen performance was taken from this show. As I had betted on earlier, that's why Phil's guitar was so low in the mix for Ellen but so high in the mix for the bands. They clearly wanted to soften the sound.

Either way, it's the same performance just mixed differently.

Yes, also, do you remember the interview with Jon on iHeart with the live broadcast of some songs out october 2? all belong to On a Night Like This - Film. I compared American Reckoning, and it's the same performance, in fact, you have the entire take including the beginning with the band, something that in the movie was cut short by a take in the Nashville studio.

So we can say that Living on a Prayer and Its My Life that this interview included, will be the same takes that will be released on two of the bonus tracks of On a Night Like This - Director Cut.

Probably those 6 bonus songs come from this performance, maybe it has a different edition, but something tells me that this is what we will see more or less.

All of that I know I just need the date. It's probably August 22, 23 or 24.

Not sure if there was already confirmation posted here that Luv Can and Shine were performed for On A Night Like This.

And the classics "It's My Life," "You Give Love a Bad Name," and "Whos Says You Can't Go Home."
