Perhaps there is a debate about why he makes that choice as a lot of Jon's more intimate interviews suggest he feels heavily obligated to numerous people (including the fans) to keep Bon Jovi as big as possible. Of course, he also clearly has a massive ego about those achievements and is unwilling to give them up.
Still, he could write a while album of those acoustic-style songs and it could tank and still not change anything for him. He chooses not to do it, for me the only question is why he makes that choice.

Exactly. On the one hand, Jon keeps touting out that he is at a point in his career where he doesn't have to prove anything or chase hits anymore, on the other hand that's exactly what he does time and time again instead of sticking to something he personally enjoys for once. As much as he denies it, he still wants to be able to play the arenas and stadiums for as long as somehow possible.
But, as I said before, fans can't be blamed for that. Burning Bridges had some of the most well-received songs among fans here, yet it was Jon who didn't give a **** about this album in any way.
