I debate this in my head all the time. If Jon went forward with a stripped back, songwritery album that we all know he'd love to write, it would tank just as hard the current albums do. But would the shift in sound be able to sell tickets if the tours were in that vein? I don't think they could maintain that level. He would have to strip the whole system down to the bolts if wanted to and I'm not sure he does.

It'd be a different story if he put it out and it was a massive hit and started a new chapter but if they can't sell material sounding like themselves, a complete 180 might be too much.
