I'll agree the structure is very pop, but them guitars made me thing we were getting a rock song.

Eh? Somewhere there's a bit of distorted guitar in chorus but it gets buried in the mix and dominated by keyboards and drums. It's a trick John Shanks has been using for well over a decade now. Make sure all ingredients are there (heavy guitars, loud drums, big bass) but take the edge of everything to make sure it's as bland as possible. It's pretty much the opposite of rock music.
