I'd hope that the whole Covid episode winds up being a game changer for legacy acts. Relying solely on touring to generate income, artistic merit and output is an especially bad idea for JBJ and company, because like you said, even a fine tuned live performance is hard to watch these days.
Of course, having missed the boat is not exclusive to Jon - Ozzy, Kiss and the Scorpions are all 70+, and have been doing farewell tour upon farewell tour. Now they might not be able to finish their current ones - it's not unlikely they already played their last show, with health risks being high for their age group and regular touring unlikely to resume for another year or so. JBJ is nowhere near that old, but "brand Jovi" would benefit more from solid albums than from terrible live shows.
