Love the album which is not something I thought I'd say after hearing THINFS and Knockout before the release. There is nothing that I skip except maybe Knockout so this is the best post 2000 album for me. LWTG, DITT, SOTG, GBTM, AHTK and IWDYH are some of the best songs they've done in my view and the lyrics feel genuine compared to garbage like WAN or WFTWM for example. I'm delighted with the album and play it most days in the car.

However, I agree with the points people are making on Phil X and Shanks. The album could have been better if they let the former loose and the latter go. However, it seems that Shanks is here to stay for whatever reason.

Personally I think we could be seeing the wind down of the band. Jon's voice is not up to scratch, touring is being scaled back it seems, popularity is declining and they are aging.

I actually think Phil was purposely underused. If Phil had been let loose on songs, added proper riffs and solos, I think the amount of "Phil v Richie" questions that Jon would have been asked would have irritated him. This album is all about Jon's difficult few years. He doesn't want to be outshined by a stand in guitarist.

Just a thought.

I think you're right in regards to Phil being purposely underused but I'm not sure it was out of respect for Richie.

Phil just doesn't suit the Bon Jovi sound and probably couldn't come up with decent parts. Some of the best guitarists in the world can play anything but creating memorable and fitting solos doesn't always come naturally.

I agree... Shanks is equally talented on guitar and his solos are somewhat limited too... But this isn't a guitar driven album either... Your lead guitar player splits and then you make a guitar driven album???? Nah!!!!

I also think that Jon is very particular. In a similar regard, Jon doesn't include Dave with any of the songwriting... He's got a proven track history with his solo projects and yet, no...

I bet they end up extending these songs for the tour... Something has to eat up the time and it's not Jon's voice...

It was done out of self-righteousness: Jon underutilized the entire band as far as I'm concerned. If he'd really wanted to turn "Sambora" into a dirty word, he would have employed a guitarist capable of doing exactly that. But then he'd be right back where he started -- sharing the limelight, right?

I'm quite torn with this album. While I had expected a lot more, there are some really big turds on it both song-wise but primarily production-wise and lack of guitars. Truthfully, it's barely even pop-rock but more semi-hard-edged pop in some places and plain pop in others. I'll pick it over WAN any day of the week, but the last BJ album that had any redeeming quality was TC. For me, after that album and tour, the band as I had come to know and love them mentally "died". And this album made no attempts on bringing them back from the grave.

I ask question before:if Jovi is not rock, what is rock in music today? I want to hear the names and arguments for that.
I love the album,I listen it very day since 4.11.,I like the lyrics,I like the music,it fits time where we are,if I want harder songs I will listen KF and albums before that!
I visit some other bands forums and I never saw critics there like here on Jovi forum, they are never be like KF period or before that,I find good i n every album, even in WAN,but such a negativity towards some band like here I never seen anyhwere.
Just to say,I dont mind it,do it,I dont care but you have personal expectations from the band, you want them to sound harder like they are hard rock band but they are not, they are like any other band or peers from 80,only they are survived and go on big time!
They toured from 2000-2015 8 times, only Maiden toured more, maybe one time more, and all tours are success!

I like it better than What About Now but not as much as the Circle.
