I am not complaining because the lyrics are not complex. It is true that they never really were. It is about touching me on some level. Always doesnt have the best lyrics, BUT DAMN the passion behind it. I'd Die For You doesn't interest me on a lyrical level but I love the drive. Runaway came upon the radio yesterday and I turned in in the middle of that solo and thought: WOW.....It is a great song.
I have been listening to a lot of Ryan Adams and he has done a lot of interesting lyrics but I also love his 'simple' songs because he sings it like he means it.
I liked Happy Now a lot because parts of the song are great and there is a connection between the lines. Living With A Ghost starts with a line I can in no way connect to the afraid to breath line (and I like that one). In Knockout it seems that Jon read a few quotes on the internet and used them for a song.

The problem is not just that it is lame but that Jon loves to say how he creates ART and that the lyrics matter. After I heard Jon talking about the album and even comparing it to These Days I thought: there has to be something....and then I heard 'Knockout'....

Default Anyone dislike This House is Not For Sale?

I've been listening to a lot of Bon jovi from debut to these days - so when you listen to anything after those 6 albums I think - with the exception of a handful of songs - what the ****s happened to this band?

Crush upwards I reckon I could make a double album of 28 songs I'd love. The rest wouldn't bother me if I never heard them again.

What happened to this band ? What pretty much happens to any band. At some time you're great then it's gone. We were lucky to get 4 albums in a row as great as SWW/NJ/KTF/TD. The rest is what all bands do, which is release new albums with songs fans won't care for after listening to them a couple of times except for 2 or 3 songs.

It happens to all bands but it's really just a combination of things... I think ultimately what happens is, they just run out of ideas and dry up... You could only make the same albums so many times before it's time to try something different... And then that only takes you so far until it's time to change again. In the meantime, you start to lose talents, like vocals, and tend to take shortcuts...

Do you think Jon will ever go to Vancouver with the band for two months and record an album again? Hell No!!! Now the time is spent in front of a PC trying to add effects to cover Jon's vocals... I don't care how many times Jon tells the 'Hey Popeye' story, that's only a small fraction of how this new album came together...

It's more than just writing... You need a singer to bring these songs to life with higher keys and vocal elements... How many times have you heard other artists butcher cover songs because they can't sing them? It's the same with original songs too... Give Adele THINFS and allow her to apply her own arrangements. It won't even sound like the same album... And then you finally need a producer who can bring out the bands sound... That's what Bob Rock was so good at back in the 80's / early 90's... Plus and engineer, etc...

Jon's voice was so good back then (until '97ish), he could sing anything... He would turn water into wine. I do enjoy this new album but I listen to it as if I was listening to a new artist... It's like Bon Jovi meets Bob Dylan or something

In a similar sense, I really liked the movie Rogue One as a stand alone movie... I actually thought it was a great movie but it's not even comparable to any of the movies in the original trilogy. Times change, the world changes, movie making has changed and although effects are better, an element is lost when an actor is faced to act with something that's not even in front of him... I apply that logic with everything from Crush forward...

BTY, 8 great albums... Don't forget the first two, plus Blaze and Stranger

Right on.
This is so spot on...
Love the comparison to Star Wars.
Feel exactly the same way about the band in the 21st Century.
Well done.

While I agree with you, I do think there were still some moments of "brilliance" here and there post-2000. I just bought and listened to Burning Bridges, and being that I am completely biased towards their mid-90s heyday I thought "Who Would You Die For" sounds like it was taken straight from the These Days sessions! Easily among my fave songs since the Crush era began. "Fingertips" is right up there too, but the rest of that album is pretty meh, although far better than "This House..."
The B-Sides and extra tracks on the various versions of the "This House" album are much better than what ended up on the standard album.
The biggest issues to me in the past 15 years or so have been the production, and those cheesy, recycled lyrics.

I thought the album is decent and quite enjoyable. Much better than WAN.
The first 7 songs are good, with one great one, that being Knockout.
Then it's a bunch of mediocre songs until We Don't Run.

This House is now one of my favorite Bon Jovi albums, the only songs I don't really like are Labor and New Years, now I like New Years a lot more than when came out but it still a little lost to me on the tracklist
