I understand why people rate it as the best song on 2020, but in my opinion, it's a bit daft to say it's the best song since '95.

Dry County: "'Dry County', which in essence is a fictionalised version of a true story: I was on a motorcycle trip across the country and in Texas there are, in fact, dry counties (no alcohol allowed). When I realized I was in a dry county, the words just rang to me. Then I went into a bar across the county line and started talking to some of the folks who were in the oil industry. Things weren't looking good for them and there they were at three in the afternoon, drinking and hanging in that local bar - and that was life. I couldn't have written that from here. I couldn't have written that from New Jersey. I did need to go and live."
Bloon In The Water: "There's always seemingly blood in the water around what's happening you know in D.C. at this time."
Too political, for me.

It's a no from me, seeing as it's only my second favourite on the album, after Unbroken. It is a good song musically, although as has been said it does sound a bit too much like Dry County.

It's definitely interesting to see Jon do a full-on protest song (albeit one that ended up being released way too late in the day), but lyrically it's a bit clumsy, not being sure if it wants to be a straightforward first-person story through the eyes of an immigrant, or a condemnation of Trump with just a few too many metaphors. And is "I'm a Russian hack by trade", arguably the climax of the song and sung twice no less, up there with "Remember that you're perfect, God makes no mistakes" and "By the way my name is Jones" as one of the stupidest lyrics Jon has ever written? I think it might be!

I pretty much agree. Sure I turned into a bigger critic over the years, but these imperfections make a song I could like a lot into just a good song.

It had the potential to be one of the best songs post TD, but it is clearly not. My opinion of course.

Jon clearly fought a writer's block, hence those "let's write about just everything" lyrics

The intro + verses are Dire Straits. Its almost too obvious? And the chorus. Yes, you can basically sing Dry County's chorus on top of that and it fits, suits & even feels more right! Confusing.

"Unbroken" is the one from me. Dont mind the subject (US Army) at all but theres a neat chorus and verses are good too!

Pretty much bored of every song on 2020 now, they have no lasting appeal at all, this is the same for most post 2000 albums, the odd song here and there but with each album it becomes more throw away.

To me what sets this one apart is how far apart it is from the terrible moon/june/spoon rhmying schemes. Gonna fly, cry, die malarkey. He at least put in enough of an effort with this one. I'll take this over probably 70 percent of the post 2000 material.

Well, I come back a lot for Luv Can, BitW and Beautiful Drug (LC was the song I heard the most this year according to my streaming!).

I won't listen as much to it like I did specially last year, but I still play and enjoy these songs.

Still 3/4 I listen too a lot. Blood In The Water & Luv Can are both miles ahead of the rest.

I've grew to appreciate Shine a lot more recently. It's Jon's vocals that put me off it more than anything.
