Earlier this week we reported that Bon Jovi and David Bowie were vying for the No. 1 slot on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart. However, Bon Jovi has now pulled ahead, and it seems like the band's "What About Now" is a lock for a No. 1 bow on the chart.

Industry sources suggest the group's album might sell just under 90,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, March 17. It will mark the band's fifth No. 1 set -- and third straight studio effort to hit the top.

Meanwhile, David Bowie's new "The Next Day" -- his first studio album since 2003 -- should arrive in the No. 2 position with perhaps 80,000.

David Bowie, 'The Next Day': Track-By-Track Review

While a No. 1 album will seemingly continue to elude Bowie (who has yet to notch a chart-topper), a No. 2 bow will give him his best ranking ever. Somewhat shockingly, his highest-charting album to date is 1976's "Station to Station," which peaked at No. 3.

"The Next Day" will also likely score Bowie his best sales week for an album in the Nielsen SoundScan era (1991-present). He's never sold more than 55,000 in a week for a single album, when 2002's "Heathen" debuted at No. 14. "The Next Day's" numbers are especially impressive, considering Bowie himself has done no press for the set. While he's released two music videos, the artist has not made a single media appearance or given an interview to promote the effort.

Elsewhere in next week's top 10, look for debuts from the "Passion: Let the Future Begin" album, Mindless Behavior, Eric Clapton and the "Sound City" soundtrack. The "Passion" album might sell around 40,000 or so, while Clapton, "Sound City" and Mindless Behavior are in the 35,000 range.

On SoundScan's Building chart (below), Bowie is No. 1 while Bon Jovie is No. 2. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. Though Bowie is ahead of Bon Jovi on the Building chart, that does not mean Bowie will necessarily be No. 1 on the official Billboard 200 chart when revealed next Wednesday.

As for the rest of the Building chart's top 10: Luke Bryan's current Billboard 200 topper, "Spring Break . . . Here to Party" is in the No. 3 position, while the "Sound City" soundtrack is No. 4. Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox" is No. 5, Mindless Behavior's "All Around the World" is No. 6 and Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" is No. 7. Eric Clapton's new "Old Sock" is No. 8, P!nk's "The Truth About Love" is No. 9 and Mumford & Sons' "Babel" is No. 10.

#1 in the US, and #2 in the UK.

David Bowie's The Next Day has achieved the highest first-week sales of the year so far after selling nearly 80,000 copies in the UK in four days.

The RCA album, his first studio set since 2003's Reality, overtook on Thursday the opening week tally of Warner Bros act Biffy Clyro's Opposites, which sold 71,584 copies at the end of January/beginning of February, according to the Official Charts Company. Until Bowie's album tally, this was the biggest first-week sales of 2013 for an artist album.

With two days of trading still to go in the chart week, The Next Day's sales were 154% ahead of its nearest rival, Mercury act Bon Jovi's brand new album What About Now, by the end of trading on Thursday.

90,000 is still a low number If I remember correctly Circle sold about 163,000 in the first week and till date has sold just less than 600,000 albums till now

The Circle had a stronger lead single, which charted in the US singles chart. Plus it had better reviews than What About Now.

Show me 1 post where I insulted or talked down to you lately in the same way you've been doing plenty of times towards anyone you disagree with. Really, I encourage you to find a post where I flat out insult you and say you're posting shit while not actually backing up as to why I feel that way. Go for it.

Yeah, and it's working rather well when it comes to you. You act like a constipated teenager as soon as he mentions Bowie anywhere. All he has to do is mention Bowie doing better and sure enough you'll reply with an all worked up attitude on how he should get lost, get bent or whatever you can come up with next. Don't get me wrong, I think his latest comment was out of line, but apart from that he's not insulted anyone on here as far as I'm aware of. It was all rather harmless before and it's a shame he posted the thing he posted because he lost his "innocent" factor with me now.

It's a shame Seb, but you need to go on ignore. As they say on TV, you're really starting to believe your own press.

How do you put someone on ignore anyway?

Once again, you're not even trying to raise a single valid point as to why I'm right or wrong, but instead you come in here acting all miserable as usual, bitching about a situation that's really in your hands. You dance around the point you tried to make once it hits you in the face and then feel there's an urgent need to bitch about other posters.

So here you are, posting reply after reply after reply in which you're essentially doing nothing but posting empty complaints. I'd really like to be pointed to those posts where I insulted you though. If you can't back up your accusations you might need to rethink as to who's got the real issues here.

For the sake of it I'd just like to point out that I did not start this pointless argument, but it seems that some people are very good at bitching at others, and then cry like a baby when the others actually talk back at them, only to then say they're the ones under attack. You know, danfan, you could've send a PM if you had issues here, but instead you felt like doing it all in public. You can't really expect me not to talk back to you in public either, and this is a bit of a shame, really.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
